I illustrated this excellent piece by Katie Goh for @natlibscot.bsky.social about libraries in pop culture. Was extremely fun to get to draw the Scooby Gang! Can someone hire me to draw a Willow comic please?

Is there actually an industry with book groups outside of these fake AI emails? Never heard of it before, always (maybe naively) assumed book groups are hobbyist/leisure activities and pick their own books
julesscheele.bsky.social
Of course, makes sense that it crops up when you further engage, which I never do
julesscheele.bsky.social
Right, there's never any links for anything or requests for money - maybe they're hoping to train their AI on your replies?

Save me from AI Miriam Toews
julesscheele.bsky.social
Literally just logged on to vent about this despite my no-logging-on-no-venting rule I'm trying to live by
julesscheele.bsky.social
I have got to live that Inbox Zero No Active Notifications life or I can easily go off the deep-end and this is truly a new circle of hell I didn't even know was possible
julesscheele.bsky.social
None of these ever get sent to spam, and an additional delightful thing is that I have a limited work capacity out of office on at the moment which they VERY ENTHUSIASTICALLY reply to with even longer emails
julesscheele.bsky.social
So who else is receiving daily damage to their psyche from constant AI bots writing lengthy flowery emails about promoting their work at book clubs or other made-up places? Winner for me so far has been fake AI Miriam Toews (?) wanting to connect with me through our shared love of storytelling (?)

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

I'll make another post but reminder that I'm looking for work! I did pretty okay last year, but didn't really feel like it because a bunch of gigs paid late/barely on time which had a real knock-on effect, and this year's been very slow

hi #PortfolioDay - available to make otherworldly work from 2025.
TTRPGs, board games, more vinyl covers and concept + visdev stuff for games/film/tv would be cool!
illustration for Haunted Table's Triangle Agency adventure 'rom dump' - of adventurers zapping out of a barn window - a horned cyclops witha book of spells, a protagonise-looking goblin girl, a blue demon with some kind of spirit mace. A grim reaper hovers in front of the crescent moon. Illustrated cover to the monkey man soundtrack vinyl. The monkey god hanuman opens his ribcage out, behind Dev patel's head. Hanuman's tail is a flaming circle that frames the figures, which dev patel graps. There's flame, blood, fleshy vomit. the busts of two figures, one looks in pain, as they're having their vocal cords yanked from a hole in their throat by the other, who clutches them in a bunch with their furthest hand. With their other hand they concentratedly use a stringed instrument bow on the vocal cords. A rainbow bridges the heads, and is dotted with fantastical music notation. Their busts rest above a small basin. a dark starry background, and a blue room where a bed sit next to windows looking out to the night sky. Psyche lies naked on a patterned bedframe amongst plants, her white hair arching around to the foot of the bed. She looks in wonder at Cupid - who is illuminated by the three candles she holds up. Cupid appears as a fleshy mass, strung within a halo, from which arrows eminate haphazardly.

Check out these uncoloured pages from @julesscheele.bsky.social of his adaptation of Virginia Woolf's Orlando!!! I had an idea in my head of what Jules could do with Orlando before I suggested it to him and it's even better than I imagined...

Yes, though also worth noting that there are a number of trans investigative journalists who have reported on this. It is widely known among experts and in community - not least because of how many of us have experienced it first-hand.

If I were an investigative journalist in the UK (are there any left?), I would be having a good look at the extent to which NHS leadership seems to have allied itself with a fringe medical movement that more or less condones conversion therapy. qnews.com.au/australian-r...

The Greens requested an interview on the Laura Kuenssberg Show with Zack Polanski when he was elected leader, but were denied, with a promise to interview him during Green conference instead.

This was then scrapped citing the Manchester synagogue attack. Polanski is both Jewish and from Manchester

I won’t even get into how you get treated there once you do make an appointment for anything. Shout out to the nurse who absolutely refused to take my coil out when I was sobbing cause as a 34-year old (then) I couldn’t be trusted not to get pregnant

Can I say it’s also nearly impossible to book any sexual health appointments at the Sandyford - took me over a year to get both my mpox vaccines and a prep appointment and so far I never managed to get a free basic health screening (most people I know pay privately for those) 👎

It was 20+ years when I registered for my first appointment and I didn’t realise I should have been grateful that it might still happen in my lifetime

In Glasgow, there is a 224-year waiting list for gender clinic appointments.

224 YEARS.

This is institutionalised discrimination. It's unacceptable, it's ruining people's lives and it needs to change.

We have the solution. Time for politicians to act.
Gender Clinic Files: Some people in Scotland will never get a gender clinic appointment on a 224-year waitlist. This system is failing to support people to transition not because it is broken, but by design. The frustrating thing is that this would not be a difficult problem to solve under a different political paradigm.

Trans+ people do not need to be assessed by gender clinics or diagnosed by psychiatrists to tell us what we already know: we are trans. The healthcare we need, especially when it comes to hormones, is already available to cis people through making an appointment with their GP.

Gender clinics are unnecessary and exist to segregate healthcare for Trans+ people. Abolishing this system and providing Trans+ healthcare in primary care, at the GP through an informed consent model, would solve many of the issues this data reveals. GPs already prescribe hormones to cis adults. Trans+ adults simply need the same access to this healthcare.
