Christ on a bike, this is brilliant.
And disgustingly historically accurate. 10/10

But it's not about actual emotional attachment; it's about making other people *think* you have emotional attachment. These images are not keepsakes, they are set pieces.

this is absolutely superb and a great introduction to Braxton

( I love Braxtons work and have a fair bit of it but I keep coming back to this quartets work)

(AND if you are really interested Graham Lock has a great book where you can read about this tour and Braxtons music)

Mental health treatments still suffer from ideological conflicts when it comes to non-white people getting care, so we don't have imagine on that one.🤷‍♀️😔

Transitioning now in my late 50s & the absolute difference in my mental & physical health.

My life would have been so much better if I’d been through the correct puberty and had the medical support I so clearly need

Imagine if we didn’t treat other treatable stuff for ideological reasons
i actually don't think we should ever join a debate over puberty blockers. the heritage foundation picked that as the point of conflict because it is a huge compromise and it also lets them imply that trans activists want your kid prepubescent.

what we really want is equal access to endocrine care

The moral panic about estrangement is all about shoring up patriarchal power over youth. Which is why gender criticals are so eager to join in.
Yeah, no thanks.

Stop guilting people about being estranged from family members. It someone is they likely have personal reasons for being so.

i can't believe the number of people in my life who are enthusiastically using Chat GPT for therapy, to analyze text conversations with partners, get advice on disputes with neighbors etc.

it's just autocomplete!

it doesn't "know" anything and can't give you advice!

please please don't do this

I am highlighting a bunch of examples of people genuinely trying to use LLMs and genuinely not finding them very useful to illustrate that this really isn’t just a “rabid AI haters who’ve never actually tried it” conversation
Yes, this is exactly what happened to me. I lost more time checking and verifying than doing it myself, so I quit
suspect a big reason why many academics and others who work in areas where getting facts RIGHT is key are disinterested in using LLMs for research:

they’ve tried it, they keep noticing major errors in output, and they conclude that having to verify all that doesn’t actually save them time.

They are ass at programming as well. Everyone I work with who uses them regularly I've see backslide both in competence and productivity. People whose opinions I used to value and trust spending day troubleshooting small issues with the wrong framing of the problem in the first place.

To be blunt:
This government is treating a child changing their name and pronouns as being as dangerous as most narcotics, and treatment as if it were shooting up bleach.
The "caution" exerted is extremely disproportionate.

It is far cheaper (comparable to paracetamol) than the double whammy of costs of expensive psychiatrists in GICs to tell trans people what we already know: That we are trans; and psychiatrists to help us cope with the distress of being pointlessly denied treatment.

this is almost certainly my own head canon

BUT

Ultravox et al seemed to me to sketch out a romantic noirish Europe

fast forward a few years & it seems to me that @hutchinsondave.bsky.social Fractured Europe sequence is a - a grubier more run down version but echoes of the same :-)

Anyone who believes in & uses the term 'gender ideology' should be disregarded as a lunatic. It's not & never has been anything more than a bigots conspiracy theory. They cannot be regarded as sane humans.

We said for years: don't normalise having these "debates" about trans people and immigrants. Everyone thought they knew better. And now it's absolutely normal to say trans people are deviants and immigrants are subhuman, and we're having debates about whether women can vote.
None of this is “good faith political debate,” and it’s not a coincidence that all these outlets are suddenly interested in the same “discussion” at the same time.

Treating women’s humanity like a thought exercise makes it that much easier to legislate away
