Breathe in, breathe out. Never look down
Just finished Christmas dinner, feeling slightly overfull, and wondering if a few Doritos or a chocolate liqueur would help to settle my stomach.

DD is trying to make herself something to eat now, and Mr D is failing to understand that his humorous interjections about what vegans eat are not funny. I had to lure him into another room with thighs and trifle.

Now that the Christmas food prep is largely done, I'm slightly alarmed at the amount of space in the fridge. I daresay some bottles could be moved in to make it look less like the fridge of an over-indulged six-year-old with a cheese obsession.
Wait, though, I have to leave room for DD's vegan jelly

I think I should probably go back to sleep. Just stared in confusion at an email with a subject line of Merry Christmas Eve, wondering why they suddenly thought my name was Eve.

A review of supplies reveals we have a good deal more alcohol in the house than I'd imagined. I suspect DD might have resorted to alcoholic gifts too. Better clear the fridge of any old stuff that might be lurking. You know, cans of premixed cocktails type of thing. A sort of anti-detox.

On his travels today, Mr D bought himself a large sherry trifle, 'for Christmas'. What day do you reckon he'll be scraping out the empty bowl? I'm going with Tuesday, but Monday afternoon might also be a good shout.

21. Something very different today. Composer and organist Ian Shaw's incredibly spare, very beautiful setting of 'I Sing of A Maiden'. Just trebles and a harp. Wintry and wonderful. youtu.be/DydFNwrk0zo?...

As Christmas Day approaches, the season of things being inconveniently fucked begins to bed in. Today: a minor toe, and a switch on the tumble dryer. Or possibly the whole fucking tumble dryer, but we'll try replacing the bit that's actually broken first. Shame I can't do the same with the toe.

Mr D invested 50p on a charity shop DVD of Pride and Prejudice, which I swear he's already seen and disapproved of, but 50p is a small price to pay for a couple of hours of cultured bitching.

Neurodivergent Students Don’t Need a Calm Corner, They a Whole Classroom Rooted in Calm, Connection, and Compassion
“Just make a calm-down space in your room!” they say, as if emotional regulation can be solved with a bean bag chair, a glitter jar, and a cute sign that says “breathe.” But here’s what so many people...

Beautiful red wine, slightly too much of it, and now finishing the evening with some Tangy Tots. Never let it be said I am not a woman of sophistication.

Rage-waiting for the British Gas guy to come and service/trash my boiler. He'll be here by 12:17, they said. He's on his way, they said. Expecting a 'sorry you were out' message to land any second. Of course, he could be wolfing down a Bombay Bad Boy from a flask just around the corner.

A series of surprising little wins last night, including a sighting of a large litter of wild boar babies emerging from the forest, and culminating in Mr D's discovery of a dusty but intact box of raspberry chocolates that must have fallen out of the cooler and leapt underneath the table.

Had to go out earlier for an alarming appointment reassuringly called an emergency eye examination. My eyes are fine, it turns out, but trust me to look up the one thing that turned out to match my symptoms, and came with an EMERGENCY! GET THIS CHECKED OUT everywhere.

I am not, I confess, entirely heartbroken to learn that today's winter squash will be the last one. Unless I go out and buy one, which I won't. Squash is quite a slimming food, because I can't face much of it.

It’s weird how the news sometimes isn’t news. “Farage the school racist” was in the public domain five years ago, but it just wasn’t getting any traction. (Tweets below from 2020) Sometimes a story just has to wait until its time has come…

My heart sank as Mr D began a question with 'Where did you put...?', but luckily it was about something I'd actually put somewhere. And told him at the time, but tbh I never had any hope that he'd remember.
