My son died of an undisclosed heart ailment when he was 41. I've paid taxes my whole life for local schools, etc when I didn't have any kids of age. Now I suppose I have to pay a death tax on my son's death that made me childless.

My most controversial take on this is probably that while I think reproductive freedom should be sacrosanct, I don’t really have any problem with additional taxes on (high income) childless people. Someone gotta pay into the pensions!

Feels like this article should mention the fact that fossil fuels and climate change massively intensified this fire, making it deadlier than it otherwise would have been, because a lot of ppl will read this story and assume it means climate played no role

2)There is no stipulation what party affiliation is of Representative who requests Speaker of House Removal vote. Given disarray of House Republicans over the release of the Epstein files which Johnson has been blocking, he, Mike Johnson, may well not have the GOP votes to keep his speakership.

When House returns into session, at least one Democratic Representative must call for vote of "No Confidence & Removal of Mike Johnson as Speaker of House." In electing Johnson, one of Freedom caucuses conditions was only a single request of removal by a House Representative would trigger that vote.
