the proximate reason i post here — beyond the fact that i like a lot of you and enjoy reading your thoughts and jokes and observations — is that this is a non-algorithmic platform where people share lots of stuff and people read what is shared. that's still valuable even if it doesn't "influence!"

Literally the only development I want in consumer AI is to be able to say “COMPUTER” in Patrick Stewart’s British accent and have Google Home respond to me.

Canada made weird tv shows because it was all being done with government funded art grant money so they fell in this wacky middle ground between “shoestring budget” and “no expectation to generate shareholder value” which is really the best way to make art

Predictable but still amazing to watch people who spent literally years accusing every librarian, teacher, and trans person they could find of sexually grooming children suddenly throw themselves in with "actually it's ephebophilia"
Megyn Kelly: "I know somebody very close to this case…Jeffrey Epstein, in this person's view, was not a pedophile…He was into the barely legal type, like he liked 15 year old girls…He wasn't into like 8 year olds…There's a difference between a 15 year old and a 5 year old."

Later than Rome on Horton if you ask me
Late blindside hit to the head determined to be a "good hockey hit."

Wilson might've just ended Chytil's career, but you wouldn't want him to spend any time in the penalty box, nosirree.

You can plant any two actual Hallmark Christmas movies into Troy McClure voice and it works perfectly.

Jim Henson would've been 89 years old today. Commemorate his life and legacy by celebrating creativity, diversity, imagination, peace, and just plain silliness.

Walk with me a bit while I talk about Jim and his work--and leave your comments about what he means to you.

Right this way. /1

Cale Makar is an excellent player but if you take proper account of teammates and competition, Quintin Hughes is a much stronger choice for an all-around award.

If you ever want a true and accurate view of Jim Henson’s life as an actual, honest-to-oshgosh human being in all its messy, complex, and nuanced ways, Brian’s book remains required reading.
One of the things that I really wanted to do with his biography, was to bust all that mythology. So, if you wanna know more…look to the book, as they say. Or even if they don’t.
