What annotations / metadata do you wish was included with every #cogsci dataset (especially #workingmemory folks 👀)? My current list includes the experiment task, stimulus, level of data (trial-, subject-, or group-level), format, and whether analysis code is provided. Any more?

New ad for an open rank position in Psychology at Cornell. That Human Bonding course seems very popular! May be a good fit for a relationship scientist out there. Below is a snippet of the job ad.

Excited to share my new preprint. My work focuses on solitude, but I am not one to advocate for a "solitude theory"; psych has too many theories so one less would be good. So, what I did the past 2 yrs is talking to people, reading work outside of my literature, essentially to shop for a framework 🧵

I was recently looking into different survey platforms to see what AI capabilities they had. There are a few companies out there using AI to generate your surveys for you. So, AI surveys get sent to AI "respondants." That's totally not a problem at all 🙄

This part is particularly horrifying. Like, whaaatttt? Don't ever do this.

Also, if you don't like doing science, you know that you can literally do anything else with your time, right? Stop taking shortcuts to pad your CV. This is beyond ridiculous.

Re-upping this thread for anyone thinking about applying for grad school who wants to know what life in Columbus is like!

(I’m also more than happy to answer questions, snap pics, or provide food recs as needed to give you a better sense of Columbus & OSU 🌰)
mattsouthward.bsky.social
And I should clarify for everyone who wasn’t on Twitter 1-2 months ago:

For anyone considering Ohio State for grad school, but only knows ohio as a meme, I'm gonna try to tweet about what Columbus can actually be like!
That way you can see if you can imagine yourself here or not #WhyColumbus

Oh yes, sauna is a given. Winter swimming (jumping into a frozen body of water) also came up, but was not recommended to us newbies unless we were very carefully advised by an Estonian, preferably in a swimming club.

I want to say yes but then I remember the trauma of the CCV in Canada. But it's very close.

They also advocated for crying as part of the acceptance strategy. But only for a few hours. If it lasts a few weeks, see a psychiatrist.

This afternoon I went to a workshop on how to cope with the darkness during winter here in Estonia. Other than the usual advice of eat healthy, exercise, and socialize, the key advice was to "accept that it is annoying" and reappraise LOL. I love it here so much.
