Texas A&M has decided that Plato is woke & thus has forbidden a philosophy professor from teaching Plato's works.

Not a joke. Not satire. This is the world the anti-woke "free speech warriors" have bequeathed us.

Texas A&M Bans Plato - Daily Nous
Drop the race and gender material from your course and the Plato readings, or teach a different course. You have a day to decide. That's a paraphrase of what Martin Peterson, professor of philosophy at Texas A&M University, was told by university officials today about his upcoming "Contemporary Moral Problems" course, due to start next

SARS-CoV-2 emerged in 2019. We have learned much about it since then, but I assure you there is much left to learn. The normalisation of this virus is both premature and dangerous. A new pathogen is infecting humans and some animals; unpredictable effects are to be expected.

Also this is for the long haul. Farming needs to adapt also after 2050, and the people leading that then are about 10-15 years old now. They need to be sharp problem solvers, not AI addicts.

Overall, climate adaptation in agriculture is going to be rough. We have about 20 years to prevent it from being insanely rough or impossible. This is not the moment for breaking international networks, drilling more or letting AI do it.

Ok, I'm an ecological engineer, helping farmers adapt to climate change. Why do I repost stuff about AI and USA?
- AI is a massive distraction to solving the climate crisis & dumbs people down
- Trump regime is making climate action impossible (and destroys a wealth of ag knowledge)

Parce que 1/ la force a tjrs été nécessaire, même à l’ONU

John and Max are spot on with this. It is baffling how Euro leaders seem to be focusing on appeals to principles that carry no weight for the current US administration, instead of seeking meaningful deterrents. It's repeating the same mistake as when trying to cajole Putin in late 2021-early 2022.
Agree, the threat of retaliation has to be both more personal to Trump - he's done in Europe - and also economic (trade deal dead, massive retaliation vs. US tech/stock market).
These comments -- "Danish prime minister says a US takeover of Greenland would mark the end of NATO" -- are getting a lot of press... but, given the politics of DC today, I doubt they form the deterrent Danish leaders hope for. DNK needs a different line of argument. www.npr.org/2026/01/06/n...

En passant sous silence l’illégalité de l’opération américaine au Venezuela (qui a, au passage, fait plus de 40 morts), les leaders européens valident une logique de sphères d’influence qui est celle de Poutine, et acceptent de facto la vassalisation de l’Europe.
