On crucial issues the BBC now barely even tries to report facts, only the perspectives of particular political actors on the facts, & without helping anyone understand which perspectives might be worthy of belief. This helped lead to Brexit & now it‘s helping to normalise fascism internationally

While it feels like I'm repeatedly slamming my head against a brick wall repeating this massively simple concept. Saying "Reform would be worse" doesn't make what Labour is doing better. Labour is now the most anti-immigration, anti-any marginalised group, government we have seen in decades. 1/

This is truly chilling, and goes waaaay beyond immigration. When you have political parties saying that you don't need lawyers, courts, judges etc because the government cannot make mistakes absolutely everyone should be worrying. What starts with one group tends to expand to others.

The goals relate to the application of research rather than research itself.

In less jest - yes, it's good if universities can help students develop skills for the labour market. However, the pointless venom of the current government about one of the few world class sectors in the British economy is tiring, enervating and just plain sad. Get a grip lads.

Just for perspective, a few weeks ago roughly 100,000 turned up for the London Trans+ Pride march. By contrast fewer than 3,000 ACROSS THE WHOLE COUNTRY, have turned up to anti-asylum "protests". Yet we are meant to take the latter as "the voice of the people" and the former as "the minority".

Aside from the frothing racism of these people, what is really grim about this is the idea that government are powerless to change culture. If your constituents think these things *they are wrong* and you need to explain why. It's not actually your job as an MP to rubber stamp fascism.

The reason why the death rate for Black women in childbirth is twice that of white women is they can’t help it affecting their professional conduct Sonia. Excusing racism that causes death really low even from her.
Imagine what Sonia Sodha would have made of it in her regular Observer pulpit if the trans doctor in the case had said a tiny fraction of the things that nurse had said…?
