(In the medieval bestiary, the hedgehog's story usually involved it rolling around and collecting fallen fruit on its quills to bring home to its children - fruit kebabs to go!)

classic MO
State Republicans cut the capital gains tax with the usual lie of increasing economic growth and they somehow undershot the fiscal impact by nearly a multiple of five and now we might have a state budget crisis.
The capital gains tax cut was supposed to cause revenue loss of about $160 million in the current fiscal year, w/ongoing losses at $111 million. The state now expects $500 million loss this year and $360 million annually. #moleg #mogov

and in framing themselves as the only True Knowers, the data boys fail to understand how they form part of the complicated, contingent outcomes they’re claiming to observe objectively. “We can only respond to poll numbers, not shape action,” is itself a theory of the world that evidence doesn’t back
data is important, measurement of public opinion is important, but politics also isn't a machine. there are a vast number of qualitative factors at work. and people themselves are unpredictable.

It is utterly catastrophic that RFK Jr. plans to end CDC recommendations for most childhood vaccines.

It’s a betrayal of science, ethics, compassion, and the people of the United States.

And it was also a specific goal of Project 2025 (page 254).

Space news is the best. Like, what do you mean there's a runaway supermassive black hole 10 million times bigger than the sun moving through space at 2 million miles per hour www.space.com/astronomy/bl...
James Webb Space Telescope confirms 1st 'runaway' supermassive black hole rocketing through 'Cosmic Owl' galaxies at 2.2 million mph: 'It boggles the mind!'

Big blizzard day in Manitoba. From the comfort of my kitchen, I watched this downy woodpecker get absolutely buffeted by the nasty wind – and for some reason, preferring to peck at this fencepost over snacking the suet log a few metres away. #birds
