Anyway this is why Inda by Sherwood Smith absolutely rules, among many other reasons.

Inda by Sherwood Smith:

Military leader: my god, this kid Inda is a military genius!

Evil, scheming royal: this 12-year old-kid is a threat to my power.

Crown prince: Inda is the best friend I could have

Meanwhile Inda: If only my sister or future wife were here to explain politics to me :(

Their dynamic is so good and compelling! Toxic might be too strong, but I don't think it's a stretch to say that they're not always encouraging the best in each other. It's such a good read, couldn't put it down!

Queen Demon by @marthawells.com is out today!!! Join me in being unwell about Bashasa and Kai, because I read the ARC months ago and have been wailing and gnashing my teeth ever since.

Also, the audiobook is really really good and you should get it from libro.fm

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

Had the honor of reading an ARC of When They Burned the Butterfly by @wenyilee.bsky.social, a sapphic historical fantasy in 1970s Singapore. It's got it all: toxic yuri, a charismatic butch, and dangerous pacts with otherworldly entities. It releases 10/21 and I want everyone to read it!

Oh yay I'm so glad!! Thank you for the Witch Roads. Elen has been such good company this year :)

Had this realization about three of my favorite fantasy novels I've read this year: Asunder by @kerstinhall.bsky.social, The Last Hour Between Worlds by @melissacaruso.bsky.social and The Witch Roads by @kateelliottsff.bsky.social. All of them also have queer characters :) #booksky
A venn diagram featuring three fantasy novels. In one circle is the cover of "Asunder" by Kerstin Hall, in the second circle is the cover of "The Witch Roads" by Kate Elliott, and in the last circle is the cover of "The Last Hour Between Worlds" by Melissa Caruso. Where the circles of Asunder and The Witch Roads overlaps is text reading, "Terrifying eldritch beings and blood magic." Where the circles of Asunder and The Last Hour Between Worlds overlaps is text reading "Charming and incorporeal love interests." Where the circles of The Witch Roads and the Last Hour Between Worlds overlaps is text reading, "MC travels perilously for a living." Where the circles of all three books overlaps is text reading "Appreciation for a good pair of boots." End description.

Remember that every authoritarian action Trump is taking must be understood against the backdrop of his declining popularity.

He feigns strength, but the reality is that he's operating from a place of weakness.

Hey, Americans. You’ve been propagandized on levels you’re just starting to grasp. America’s history, mission, and what it represents is a lie. It is not freedom. It is not truth. It is enslavement, destruction, submission.

Why do I know this? ‘Cause I’m Native.

Some unprogramming advice: (1/3)

Chiitan loves all transgender people.
I've received a lot of criticism for expressing my support, but what's more important is that all transgender people live happy lives.

We vaccinate to *reduce harm.* Vaccines are not immunity passports with absolute guarantees of no infection. What drives me crazy is that these people know that. By repeating these claims, they validate and endorse vaccine refusal.

I recall an anonymous quote from an elected Democrat asking with exasperation: do people expect us to put our bodies on the line?

@katmabu.bsky.social did it. She gets it. All the respect.

We are peacefully protesting. They are kidnapping and hurting us.

“For the large majority [of the Harper’s Letter signatories,] Trump’s reign of terror has apparently been less objectionable than the irritating undergraduate and entry-level scolds of the 2010s.”
They All Signed the “Harper’s” Letter. Where Are They Now?
Many of those who were loudest in denouncing cancel culture then are now curiously silent in the face of Donald Trump’s assaults on free speech.

a key reason they see an opening for such a blatant speech crackdown is that they already did one to Palestinian and anti-genocide activists and it got enthusiastic bipartisan approval

This is the biggest attack on free speech since the McCarthy era but it also has significantly less popular consensus behind it than the second Red Scare. It's being done on behalf of a minority faction led by the most unpopular president in modern history. Organizing against this can win.
