Was at a Christmas party with a load of clergy last night and as some people were leaving they found a person collapsed on the street outside so the Verger took over and called an ambulance and sent all the clergy away because "if they wake up surrounded by priests that'll just make things worse"

The small groups of men imposing flags on Birmingham communities have found a resonance with some people. And certainly not all of the people that welcomed the flags are racist and anti-migrant. But they must accept that many people in this city do not subscribe to their world view…

It is very nearly the tenth anniversary of that brief moment when, for 2 or 3 days, British newspapers remembered refugees are desperate human beings who need our help, rather than scum that it's okay to threaten with violence.

A while ago a lovely German man appeared at our church. He came a few times to look around during our Saturday opening hours, before asking if the piano abandoned in the corner worked.
I told him it was horrendously out of tune, and the cathedral piano tuner had deemed it not worth sorting out.
