Marl just wants to be reunited with her husband after his tragic death. But, an ancient crocodilian god won't let her die until she sacrifices blood and tears to it--preferably from the people who live in her small Maine town in SORROW EATER.

Thank you. Some exquisitely worded creepy prompts.

Since we have been talking of phantoms, I happen to have a ghost story out soon.

It is called Hollowed By Thy Name, and will hopefully be released in a Halloween zine on classic British horror from @generalwitch.bsky.social

But the graveyard you had entered was no hallowed burial ground. The cemetery adjoined a crematorium, and every stone and slab was fashioned of glassy granite or marble, shot through with tendril veins. They echoed the streams of dread now tracing sinuous paths down your scalp.

Come forth, Baron Crescendo! Let your guitar split the sky open, for more wraiths to dazzle us!

Behold, a note from him, for you!

“The moment you entered the graveyard, the scrape of ancient stone shadowed your ears.”

Finish it! With word of rhyme, before we dance to the end!

#HorrorWritersChat
Art by Jelle Husson, featuring a haunted monastery of many sharp-tipped towers scraping at the midnight sky. The largest is in the centre of the structure’s roof, whose walls are painted white. The monastery is located above a hilly terrain of dark stone and dark green moss. A stony, twisting road leads to the monastery.

Question Four

There he is! Baron Crescendo! Oh how the skies split open to his guitar, how more of us fly in the air! And look, a note from him, just for you!

“The moment you entered the graveyard, the scrape of ancient stone shadowed your ears.”

Well? Go on! Word or rhyme, continue his Muse!

"The moment you entered the graveyard, the scrape of ancient stone shadowed your ears. You can't be sure it was the door to the mausoleum, forested by moss and frosted by lichen. But there is a darkness there that there wasn't before and the breath of warm decay."

Listen to the Symposium’s finest vocalist, as their tenor bends the living into unnatural angles and swivels them into the air! Tell us, what ghosts do you prefer? Of the folkloric tradition, or those invented by authors? And why?

It is always a delight to see our violinists perform! How the living bend their splintering bones as they float above us all! Tell us, our ghostly compatriots – which of us are better? Of the folkloric kind? Or invented by our shadowy creators?

I take elements of nature and turn them into shade, a theatre of shadows, a landscape layered over another, old gods and goddesses drifting into the present, ancestors returning but still held by the land.

I think my taste bends more towards ghosts that aren't traditional. Give me things that don't have a shape, don't have a voice, warp your mind or your guts or time. I want ghosts I can long for and be afraid of at the same time.

Marl is lost in grief. Her husband is dead. The small town where they've recently moved against her. Friends have forgotten her. When she decides to end it all, something is waiting in the dark with a compromise; a giant crocodilian god with a taste for tears in SORROW EATER.

I do like a secluded village, where dark secrets are held and things aren’t as lovely as they seem. Then again, any location where a group find themselves isolated from the outside world appeals. Anything from a ship in the ocean to a labyrinth underground…

Now, let us begin! Let the flutes bleat and the trumps blare, snatching all the souls of the living away! What are your favourite haunts? Mausoleums? Lavish estates? What secrets do their wraiths protect within?

#HorrorWritersChat Ghosts belong in the liminal spaces next to comforting ones. The hallways of your house. Between the trees in the forest. Just behind you in the stark sunlight of a summer morning. This is my favorite spot for them, because you feel safe and secure. It's an illusion ripped away.

St Augustine. The old fort there--I can feel the ghosts! Graveyards are my fave though! I visit them whenever I can. New England holds special spots, like Union Cemetery where the white lady resides. If I can smell old books and decaying wood, arrrgh, there be ghosts!

I love big houses, whether luxurious or not. Houses with lots of rooms. Strange architecture. Not enough windows. Walls that knock. Boards that groan. A house that complains of its age just as much as its past residents do.
