I don't have lots of experience writing either, because my horror often has sci-fi origins: rogue AI, cosmic parasite, etc. With an occasional human slasher. I DID publish a short fantasy story featuring the fairy Yallery Brown (in The Fables Next Door) so there are exceptions!

Knowing a few people that are not well at the moment, Hospitals can be weird places, especially at night when you hear nurses walking up and down the corridors creating shadows under the door, stopping outside your room to read your chart, (At least I hope that's who it is).

Just a spooky thing that makes you nervous: house, preferably a spare room.

A lonely spirit with depression: abandoned places that should bring joy — theater, cinema, an empty town.

Scary ghosts: Marching down Main Street, big as a house and hungry.

But when it comes to writing, it's always places I know intimately. You'll find ghosts in prisons, in theatres, asylums, abandoned buildings. Wherever the story echoes.

I love old houses, restored and maintained, you can practically smell the history. There's also a mansion that was burned hollow during construction on the way to my brother's place that feels like a great place to haunt or possess. Wish I had a picture.

Restaurants. 😋 i real life & in my cozy horror stories. I think good descriptions of food can give cozy vibes to a horror story. My MC Rose Marie is a 🍕 delivery girl! There's also Grillman's, an evil fast-food chain run by animatronics that turns humans into meat.
