Well holy forking shirt balls, turns out spinning some Fancy-Ass™️ fiber is in fact as decadent as I’d rolled my eyes imagining???

I don’t want to post, I don’t have anything insightful to add to what better people are already saying about The Fucking Terrible Things happening, but

Inspired by @lyz.bsky.social, I chose a “classic” book for my next read, and goddamn I am popcorn.gif for each next chapter of “Vilette” already.

Only evil assholes mess with libraries and librarians.

Anybody who is like “Piracy is activism!”—trust me, supporting your local library is about 1000% more effective activism, and it’s still free for you and authors still get paid!

No email from a library system stirs the imagination like a notice my scan is ready to download through WORLDCAT. The great cat that surrounds the world? That nuzzles the roots of the world-scratching-tree? The great world cat who is and was and shall be? That cat???

Having breakfast with relatives from tiny rural towns before a funeral, and they’re talking about how their communities come together to fundraiser for people in need. They just need help seeing past the propaganda.

Amazon is helping fund a $300 million build of a ballroom for the White House.

Independent bookstores are donating to food banks and organizations that help with food insecurity.

They are not the same.

all these people protesting today in groups of a few dozen on the main streets of small towns in deep red Trump country - where they will absolutely take shit from their neighbors about it at church tomorrow or at work on Monday or next time they go to the grocery store - are braver than the Marines

notice the general mood of the timeline? how everyone is in a good mood and there’s a lot less misery and dooming? how there’s a lot of “we’re going to beat these assholes”?

anyway that’s why these events are important

I haven’t been able to maintain focus on any single book recently. Hopping around several without gaining traction is a lot like trying to watch TV with my mother in the late 90s. In retrospect neither of us should have been surprised by our brain diagnoses (decades later).

Everything is bad, but books are good. Get a book. Read the book. Cherish the book. Finish the book. Tell your friends about the book, and leave a review of the book. Hold the book close. Listen to what it tells you. Do as it commands. Place it on the dread altar and let it guide your every choice.

Spent way more time than I usually allot on social media the last 24 hours. Now not only am I disappointed, my anxiety has spiked, reminding me why I only allot 20 minutes or less to this stuff.

J and I had a bookstore date yesterday and I picked up @tkingfisher.com ‘s “The Twisted Ones” - haven’t been able to put it down since. I love the narrator’s voice, the book-in-a-book-in-a-book framing, and of course Bongo the dog.

Jade to me: I’m not celebrating the holiday. I’m celebrating that you and I can take care of each other.

Me: …and our asshole cats?

Jade: Well obviously.

I am going to hold this ethos close amidst all the horror in the world right now.
Save every human being.

Fight for every single person that you can.

AND it's all of us or none of us, truly. We must continue to fight back in all the ways that we can.

AND literally: Save every single person that you can.

There is no buffer time. It's now
I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

MASSIVE good news for trans people in the United States.

A federal judge has just granted class action status to transgender people looking to update their passports.

This means that very shorty, the window will open to update your passports with the correct gender marker.
