“Year after year, land and environmental defenders—those protecting our forests, rivers, and lands across the world—continue to be met with unspeakable violence.”

146 environmental and land defenders were murdered or disappeared in 2024
The political killings you don’t hear about
Across the globe, standing up for the planet can be a death sentence—and the perpetrators are almost never held accountable.

Critics slam renewables for land use but ignore fossil fuels' huge impact.

Germany's Hambach lignite mine: 85 sq km pit, 300m deep, snapped from ISS.

My first ever energy research protect professionally was on the externalities of lignite. In short: they are very significant!

YES, NO.

When did journalists lose the ability to retain and clearly state established fact?

When did we decide everything, even scientific consensus, must be culture warred for clicks, even if that war puts women in harm’s way?

New York Times had a refreshing lack of sane-washing in their piece too. But it is alarming how many readers of news across the political spectrum may have come away with no idea of what other world leaders experienced in that room

We often get asked, "What can I *personally* do to help address climate change?"

Sadly, there hasn't been a very good answer to this question. Previous guides often treated people as monoliths, providing a one-size-fits-all answer.

But that's all changed, thanks to SHIFT.

Liquid oozing from landfill + industrial waste + sewage - treated for pathogens then split, the solid part spread on farmland, the liquid part released into rivers - what could go wrong?

Our latest article out now:

Thousands of tonnes of toxic landfill liquid added to sewage and spread on English farms
Exclusive: Leachate is tankered to treatment works where it mixes with sewage and industrial effluent

Catching up on the WaPo editorial favoring the Dept of War, bemoaning Biden's natsec strategy that mentioned climate 19 times -- "climate is not the military's job."

Tell that to the 1000s of US soldiers deployed 200+ times in the past 3 yrs in response to wildfires, floods and hurricanes.

Up until last year, this was Folgefonna alpine ski slope in Norway. In recent years they've been hauling snow up from nearby to keep it operating, but the company has now gone bankrupt. In the short time since, the ski lift has toppled, as the glacier melts away.

One article from Feb, the next from April.
Two search results: One from Feb 2025 saying India gas demand to surge, doubling LNG imports

The second from April 2025 saying India cuts LNG buying as other fuels become more attractive.

NEW: i spoke to nine (!) scientists across several disciplines whose work was cited in the new Department of Energy report that downplays the severity of climate change. all of them say their work was misrepresented, cherry picked, and/or lacked context —

A new Department of Energy report “fundamentally misrepresents” climate research and leaves out key context, multiple scientists cited in the report tell WIRED.

It is endlessly hilarious to me that the 5 denier scientists they are able to dig up for this ... are the same 5 denier scientists they were able to dig up 10 years ago, and 20 years ago.

One might ask why no new scientists are joining this faction. Must be the global conspiracy.

India's emissions up only 0.9% in the first half of this year. And you know what's interesting? 👇
robbieandrew.bsky.social
Addendum:
Fossil CO₂ emissions in the USA are up about 2.8% in the first 6 months of 2025, while emissions in the EU are up 2.9% in the first 5 months.

This is a turnaround, with India's emissions growing more slowly that both the US and EU so far this year.

In my pre-Bellingcat days, I worked for an organisation that housed asylum seekers, and I'd challenge anyone who think they get an easy time to spend a few months living in the same conditions and see how they feel about it then.
