This is a REALLY good video that gets into the *specifics* of how AI is degrading our information environment and putting truth further out of reach for the average person / the population as a whole

I walked into the lounge last night to find my teenage son watching this. We have long admired @kurzgesagt.org and found their videos to be extremely illuminating. But this one in particular I think is so important right now!

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Cover: Listen To Me and I’ll Tell You A Story by Ejiwa “Edge” Ebenebe. In an underwater scene tinted in sea green, a child-like being with flowing ochre-colored hair and dark sea green skin sits on a mass of orange-ochre and green tentacles talking to a school of salmon-color fish. In the foreground, another school of brown fish swimming away from the scene. The text "Uncanny," "September/October 2025," "Issue Sixty-Six," and the credits are in white.

I just saw someone use the abbreviation “AI;DR” and I’ll be laughing for a while.

Last week, PEN America released its fourth annual report on the state of book banning and censorship in America, and I learned that Last Night at the Telegraph Club was the fourth most banned book in schools during the 2024-25 school year. How do I feel about it? www.malindalo.com/blog/2025/10...

I think the question of AI personhood is pertinent and a discussion that will need to be had in several hundred years when we're close to creating actual sentient AI.

Not so sure why we're having it now when we can't even get others to agree that certain people are people.

"Trans Rights" are, to put it simply, the right for each of us to live OUR OWN LIVES the way WE WANT TO.

And that applies to EVERYONE.
jeffsharlet.bsky.social
And just in case it needs underlining: if you’re not trans you can celebrate victories for trans human rights as human rights. Not out of altruism but solidarity. Every victory for human rights is a victory for all who know everyone is human.

I've heard countless folks say "I can't even draw a stick figure" and let me tell you, that squiggly hand-drawn line will always have more heart and expression than any AI art could ever have.

Not for me, "AI" aimed at consumers has very little offer anyone who actually does at a professional level the creative things it mimics. I write better than an LLM, an artist does better art than an image generator, a musician makes better music than an "AI" music tool.

Do you see AI actually being a useful tool for writing?

FYI - This page lets you search for your works on the list and file a claim. But in order to file a claim, you should have your unique ID#, which you'll get when you're notified that you are a member of the class. Notifications haven't gone out yet but reports say that'll happen by end of November.

Authors & illustrators - the Anthropic Copyright Settlement Website is up now & you can search for your titles here to see if you're part of the class action:

(Early note: this does not match up with the full LibGen database so there are going to be questions.)

The official database of works eligible for the Anthropic AI settlement has been released and, as I suspected, many authors are screwed. Basically, if your books weren't officially registered with the US Copyright Office you're out of luck. 1/ secure.anthropiccopyrightsettlement.com/lookup/results
Welcome to the Anthropic Copyright Settlement Website
Are you the legal or beneficial copyright owner of a book included in the Anthropic Copyright Settlement?
You could get a payment from the $1.5 billion Settlement.

On the Anthropic database claim:

TALK TO YOUR AGENT (if you have one).

They will be able to help with claims and also payment/bank account requirements. US-based agents are already compiling a list of works and authors through their agents' association. Non-US agents should also be making lists.
