NIH is losing so may good people. First they were fired or RIFd or pressured to retire early.

Now they are leaving because “no longer lend our credibility to an organization that has lost its integrity.”

Proud to know these brave scientists!

The NIH has lost its scientific integrity. So we left
“We can no longer lend our credibility to an organization that has lost its integrity,” write four scientists and administrators who recently resigned from the NIH.

Today, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting died. It was murdered during a burglary by a couple of billionaires. The education of our children simply couldn't survive their need for more golf clubs and manufactured adulation.

We can't work with foreign collaborators, but they can send money to a foreign PI to conduct an ethically questionable study in a vulnerable population in another foreign country?

This is what corruption looks like.

Current NIH policy under Bhattacharya (at the behest of Project2025 architect Russell Vought) is killing the next generation of researchers.

If you value research, tell your members of Congress that the NIH needs more than funding. It needs sound leadership.

Here’s the thing, emerging scientists aren’t going to flee to do science elsewhere…they just won’t do the science.

We will lose at least one, if not two generations of knowledge if we don’t get this shit sorted out immediately.
My teen, who had dreamt of being an astrophysicist, just told me he wants to go to law school because, “Science isn’t going to be a priority in the US in the future…I don’t want a job where I’ll be constantly worried my funding will be taken away.”

Gutting. How many future scientists have we lost?

This afternoon, I was in a meeting with Jay Bhattacharya, and I can confirm this is *exactly* what he both wants and will be doing.

THIS IS NOT HYPERBOLE.
I missed this from a couple of weeks ago, but if you're an NIH-funded investigator, please read.

Peer review will exist to make things look legitimate, but can, and will, be over-ruled. Funding decisions, ultimately, will be done by political appointees.

My reviewing style has changed over time. Rather than litigate every little thing, and pushing my own ideas, I focus only on 2 things:
(1) Are the claims interesting/important?
(2) Does the evidence support the claims?

Most of my reviews these days are short and focused.

Good news is stopgap contributions will keep core FlyBase operations active. But community support remains essential. Please donate @FlyBase and share! 1/2

He then died upon his return to Costa Rica after being detained for 8 months by DHS.

mRNA vaccines are safe, have been in development for decades, & have far broader applications than older vaccine technologies.
New vaccine technologies evolve when scientists have tools & knowledge to make something more elegant or complex that wasn’t possible before.
