How the opioid epidemic (pushed by big pharma in high-cancer areas, especially Appalachia), resulted in major opioid death and economic hardship which—through various media/political channels—resulted in a sustained rise in support for the Republicans,
Republican Support and Economic Hardship: The Enduring Effects of the Opioid Epidemic*
Abstract. In this article, we establish a causal connection between two of the most salient social developments in the United States over the past decades:

Albanese and Labor could barely have been more supportive of Israel, or less sympathetic of the Palestinian civilians massacred and starved. Did that satisfy News Corp? Not even.
And now he invites the president of the genocidal state to visit. Does he think they will lay off now?
Ofc they won’t. 🤡
When do you think Albanese will realise there’s no placating these people? News Corp pays no tax and adds nothing to Aus society apart from hate, but Labor acts as if it owns them.
Instead of fighting back or standing up for themselves, Albanese and co are like “please sir can I have some more?”

Incredible the entire press gallery is actually buying the line (promulgated by Netanyahu!) that Albanese is personally to blame for the Bondi attack.

No one is actually explaining how firing academics for opposing Israel’s genocide would stop two people who never went to uni from this shooting.

Yet Jillian Segal failed to mention this man's courage.
Or his name.

Simon, her politicising of this event is about as low an act from a supposed leader as I've ever seen

I don't care what political colours anyone wears, (see Kellie Sloane's classy response as an example of what we should expect) but Ley's instant, opportunistic politicking of this is disgusting

An important piece. With dark forces already seeking to exploit this horrific event we must be extremely vigilant to avoid this: “Calls are already rising for attacks on peaceful protest, free speech and freedom of assembly”.

Nearly every under 16 I know has cracked the social media ban and they are sharing with others how to do it. I’m not surprised, the tech firms half arsed the verification.

So glad we spent so much time and $100k in minister airfares on this policy.

Electricity prices! What a shemozzle!

I can't flick a switch without thinking of former LNP PM John Howard's:

"We are firmly of the belief that services are best provided by private industry."

Can you think of 1 instance where privatisation has worked for consumers?

Labor started it in 1991.

Reminder that Starbucks’ CEO made 6,666x more than the company's median employee in 2024.

This was the widest CEO-to-Worker pay gap in the entire S&P 500.

And we're supposed to believe Starbucks can't afford to bargain a fair contract with its unionized workers?

This document is the product of a broken administration, motivated by cynicism, immune to human decency, with a weak-to-non-existent understanding of the policy area they wish to legislate in.
And that's it. Overall impressions are
- there's still a surprising lack of detail
- lots of new work for officials but unlikely to lead to much change on the ground
- refugees will still live here rest of their lives but will struggle even more than before to integrate
