Mandatory crunch time to complete a demo is not what we sign up for as video game workers, yet it's a reality we're all too familiar with as studio execs exploit our passion for the games that we create and love.

And it won't stop unless we organize.
NEW: For the last seven weeks, Naughty Dog has enacted mandatory overtime for staff to finish an internal demo of their next game, Intergalactic. The game won't be out until 2027, leaving some staff wondering: If they're crunching now, what will next year be like? www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

"RemoveWindowsAI" is a script created by zoicware, available on GitHub, that does exactly what it says: it remove every AI feature in Windows 11. Do what you wish to do with this information. I'm sharing this because some folks are forced to use Win11 at work or other places for any reasons.

Seeing OTHER anime being AI dubbed, including shows that have already been dubbed proper by other studios no less (No Game No Life and Dororo via Sentai Filmworks) is such a telling sign of how greedy Amazon is being.

Disrespectful to the creators, clients, studios AND the audience when you use AI.

This is not only insulting to the art, medium, and voice actors, but also to the viewers.
Hey just so you know Amazon decided to give us an AI ENGLISH DUB of Banana Fish instead of actually hiring real voice actors
it is fucking hot garbage

The only thing less human than these AI dub performances is the decision to sign off on them

A company this big can pay human actors a decent wage, not produce slop that intentionally removes the human element.

A trillion-dollar company going super-cheap on producing a mechanical-sounding dub with no human touch, aura, or spark involved.

It's insulting, anti-consumer, anti-creative, shameful, and just damn embarrassing.

Also... I can't trust anything that pronounces "finger" as "fin-jer."

2:12 in, BTW.

we should do that
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

Stand firm with your fellow actors, no matter the country. If you've received auditions for this, no you haven't. If you've already submitted for this, you're unavailable to accept the job. If you've already accepted the job, you don't want it anymore. If you've already worked it, you quit.

Wicked For Good is phenomenal! The performances were excellent! Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were fantastic! Ariana should win best supporting actress hands down! I thought the music was great as well! I really like how it was adapted from the stage! The critics don’t know what they are

Ask literally any voice actor if they get royalties from the video games they worked on.

They will tell you no. They might even laugh.

Now imagine any developer actively trying to use AI VO to save money wanting to offer something like that.
Also, re: "they get royalties", how much money is that? Does it make up for the lack of continued work?

Paying next to nothing is still "getting paid royalties" but is functionally nothing.

The discourse following this will amount to “so much for eurogamer’s review mattering”

But this only reinforces how absurd it is to not use traditional voice actors instead of feeding their voices into a machine.

You’re this successful, after your previous game made millions?

What is the excuse?

For Arc Raiders to ride the wave of human sociability all the way to the bank, while also being so contemptuous of the thing that makes us social animals in its own workflow demonstrates a lack of artistic integrity that I find impossible to ignore.

Not to be the fun police but I do hope people know that Arc Raiders does use generative AI for voice acting, and by supporting the game you're letting higher-ups know that this is an okay practice.

They try to downplay this on the Steam store page by describing the AI usage as vaguely as possible.

Remember when Spider-Man 2 for PS5 came out and people realized the NPCs on the street all had dialogue with each other that you could eavesdrop on and then players in. A. SPIDER-MAN. Game. Took time out of swinging above the city just to follow people around on the street and listen to them? 🤔
The worst part as a writer is, like, NPC dialogue and barks and incidental text is the most fun stuff to write but takes the most time in terms of billable hours and has the least amount of screen-time, so for a corpo it just 'makes sense' to have an LLM pump it out
