Good morning to everyone who will never stop being astonished by the idea that vehicle delay is a *safety* hazard, and so therefore if you do something to increase vehicle throughput capacity (=moving more cars, faster), you are improving *safety*.
what's it called when standard lexicon of a field consistently conflates the meaning of one term for another one, to the detriment of understanding of anyone outside the field?

like saying "improve safety" when you mean "reduce liability"
or "demand" when you mean "consumption"

People love to hand-wring about bike lanes hindering emergency responders, but it's always cars -- parked or otherwise that cause issues.
The FDNY's response to a five alarm fire in the Bronx was delayed by drivers who parked their cars in front of three fire hydrants closest to the blaze. Two firefighters and one civilian were injured.

Oil companies aren’t going to sink tens of billions of dollars in capital expenditures that will take decades to pay off in order to revive Venezuela’s oil sector when they don’t know what the security situation will look like in 6 days, 6 months, or 6 years from now. They are not charities.
Trump wants U.S. oil companies to revive the Venezuelan oil industry,

but major production increases could require “tens of billions of dollars over multiple years,”

and involvement could be messy.

It won’t be worth it for many U.S.
oil companies.

Venezuela seems like less of a war or invasion than a Viking plundering campaign from the Middle Ages. They surprise attacked, they stole stuff, they killed some people, they kidnapped the king, they left.

It’s medieval—which makes sense because we’re rewinding to before the Treaty of Westphalia.

The reality of North Korea punditry is that *very* few people *remotely* have an idea of what Kim Jong Un is up to, and even then, they haven’t had an informed take since probably 2019-20. Yet “experts” are asked to opine and speculate and it becomes headline news. Yes, the media fuels this, I know.
