It's perhaps inconvenient for some to remember that some Panthers ran for local office in the 70s.

I wonder if people in this country know that the VAST MAJORITY of people in the US did not contribute to the Black freedom movement. I'm always taken aback by how people talk online. Folks, your grandparents & great-grandparents DID NOTHING or they were in OPPOSITION, lol.

You can do a lot locally with a dedicated group of 15 to 40 people. Regular people should be thinking at that scale rather than at the scale of thousands.

Expect a "revolt" among 60 Minutes staff over Bari Weiss pulling the CECOT segment at the last minute, one network insider told me.

Another CBS News reporter added that a Rubicon had been crossed with this decision, which 60 Minutes correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi called "political" and not editorial.

really cannot be emphasized enough that bari weiss has literally never done journalism. i don’t mean that in the pejorative sense. i mean that in the “has never performed the job she was hired to do” sense
One explanation for Bari killing the story is that she did so as a public act of fealty to the administration. But another is that, as an inexperienced journalist, she doesn’t understand that a refusal to go on the record is a kind of comment in and of itself

CBS paid the president of the United States millions in bribe money and now they censor news reports so it does not annoy him. I don’t know how much plainer we can put this.

The thing about censorship — I say this as someone with experience living under authoritarianism — is that it’s rarely overt. The state cracks down when people flirt with the line & then folks maintain it. This 60 minutes cancellation of the episode on CECOT sent chills down my spine.

Outnumbering your enemy is not enough. *Strength* in numbers requires a shared sense of purpose. That must be cultivated. Understanding and relationships must be built. This is the work most people don't want to do. To turn moments into lasting movements, we need organization.

I still believe the most effective way to address gun violence would be for every parent who can to call in sick the day after every school shooting.
Two people were killed and eight were injured in a shooting at Brown University on Saturday, officials said. No one was in custody, and a shelter-in-place order remained in effect for the campus. Follow live updates. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/12...

What will historians write about this in 100 years? How would the world be different if this had gone in Gore's favor? We will never know.
25 years ago today, SCOTUS elected George W Bush president of the United States by blocking completion of a voting canvass in Florida. A subsequent canvass by the Associated Press showed that Bush's rival, Al Gore, had won the race in Florida—and thus the contest for the presidency—by 700 votes.
