Finally had a chance to just sit & read a little book I picked up direct (& signed by) the artist @jopi.bsky.social by the title: The Leg, or, The Remarkable Reappearance of Santa Anna's Disembodied Limb.

For everything going on, this is such an exemplary example of the, often contradictory, attacks on the public & education. It not about protecting anything other than power, projecting power, & maintaining power.

This is a thread worth reading as it states clearly what has been explicit if not obvious given how the news is generally presented.

@scalzi.com hits the nail on the head with is review.
Specifically about the larger context of what makes a "comfort watch". This context is why the John Wick movies are a comfort watch for me (skipping the dog death). Precision, rules, & manners are comforting.

This thread is an excellent idea.

Do not be one of my offices where, despite half the staff being Jewish, the board & leadership tried only 2 days to call it a holiday party before chuckling & leaning into what everyone knew it was anyway ending the facile veneer of inclusion.

Do a New Year party.
Guys you can literally avoid all weird "Christmas is secular!" nonsense *and* still give your community and workplace some joy during a dark time by doubling down on being excited about New Year's, an *actually secular holiday*

A quote from Rabbi Hershenson:
Every flame this year shall say:
we grieve,
we resist,
and we remain responsible for one another
and for the world we are shaping.

May our light strengthen our courage,
deepen our solidarity,
and move us from resilience toward action.

This is well done.
Genuinely.
Read it, be frustrated, & then find something to do that supports people.

Comics are great.

@warren.senate.gov is one of the few guests on the @colbertlateshow.bsky.social whose interview I will watch in full.

No shade to other guests who share their work.
Colbert conducts an excellent interview, it is just rare that the whole topic is important enough to listen all the way through.

Yes, I am one week late to start. However, at 09:02 is an example of one of the myriad ways a @miamulder.bsky.social video rewards the viewer who actually attends to the information by actually watching.

So watch it through & pause to read during the 2nd time.

The current job market reminds me a lot of 2012.

However, it is much slower. If there is any response at all it is generally weeks later with weeks more before a final response.

At the start of the year when I began looking, there were more jobs & more responses within a reasonable timeframe.

On the topic of music... why was this song by FLOW randomly in my head this morning? No idea. Solid song (famously the 4th Naruto OP) & I had forgotten how nuts is the accompanying MV:

Most excited about Bendis & Bagley collaboration as they are one of my favorite creative teams.

(Ignored this talk until now when a responsible source has posted this information.)
Brian Michael Bendis is back at Marvel for a new run of stories, starting with a back-up by Mark Bagley in January's AVENGERS #800.
Bendis returns to Marvel for AVENGERS #800
Bendis's back-up story, featuring art by Mark Bagley, will mark the writer's first Marvel project since 2018.

A good conversation that touched base on creative persistence/perseverance & finding the truth in the character & stories.

Also mentioned too briefly "Speeding Bullets", the first Elseworld that I spent money to read. Like much of what @jmdematteis.bsky.social has written, it stays with the reader.

Artists behind some of the most popular films of all time are also forging one of the most powerful organized resistances to AI.

With solidarity, class action lawsuits and strong legislation, they're fighting to protect their livelihoods, and pop culture, from big tech.

My latest:
How artists behind Marvel, Alien, and the Matrix movies are fighting AI
With solidarity, legislation, class action lawsuits, and a little help from Guillermo del Toro. Plus, the Luddite Renaissance continues, and I open the mailbag.

The utter lack of decency along with a complete lack of respect & recognition of both conventional limits & the law... While it is has long since stopped being a shock in any way, it remains infuriating to see such harm inflicted on vulnerable people & institutions that stand for something better.
NYT Confirms: Trump will DEMOLISH the ENTIRE East Wing of the White House.

The Times says the East Wing is expected to be fully torn down by the weekend to make room for Trump's ballroom for billionaires — despite the fact that Trump pledged the White House would not be touched.
