No, it was a successful coup. None of the people who led it were punished, and are in fact back in power, rewarded for their efforts to break the system by running it. Donald Trump is currently the dictator he attempted to become 5 years ago, and it’s because nobody treated trying as a crime.
We must speak plainly: January 6th was an attempted coup. It was an effort to nullify millions of lawful votes and subvert the will of the American people.

The American people electing Trump after he staged a coup attempt 5 years ago was a nail in the coffin of our democracy. You can rationalize it all you want - But inflation! But wokeness! - but ultimately it was a societal suicide attempt and probably the dumbest collective voting decision ever made

They kidnapped the head of a Latin American country, replaced him with an insecure white racist who has spent his entire life arguing that Latinos are subhuman, and made clear that their primary aim is to plunder the country for its resources.

If it isn't yet clear, yes, we're the fucking baddies.
Per WASH POST, Stephen Miller will play an “elevated role” in Venezuela (what could go wrong!) and Machado won’t be president because she accepted the Nobel Peace Prize Trump wants (yes, seriously)

Couldn’t make it up if we tried

yep. i can identify any number of structural issues but at the end of the day the basic problem is the republican party. this has been apparent for at least 20 years. it is also an incredibly unpopular observation to make among “serious” people.
Right.

If you want a good explanation of why the American system of government worked well enough for 200 years and then suddenly stopped, it's because Republicans in Congress suddenly started letting their partisan interests COMPLETELY override their institutional interests
a lot of problems wouldn't exist if we had a congress with even an ounce of self interest

Tl;dr: We don't meet any baseline definition of "democracy/republic" & never will until we do things like add more states, enlarge the House, eliminate single member districts, etc. If we were truly serious, we'd also subordinate the Senate & completely overhaul SCOTUS, but that's another story.
👇🎯 One essential reform to protect the partial democracy we currently have & finally transform ourselves into a full democracy is to add (several) more states. Otherwise, we must subordinate or abolish the Senate. No serious democracy (or republic, stop it) has our extreme level of malapportionment.

they didnt just lie about the election, they were caught saying they were gonna spread lies bc its what their viewers wanted to hear and it would be good for ratings

insane that anyone with any self respect wouldnt turn on them after that
Remember when Fox News settled a defamation suit for $800m because it lied about the 2020 election and then all the Fox News watchers kept watching it?

Anyone who has dealt with an IRS issue knows it takes forever to resolve and requires hours of phone calls and lots of letters. Hope someone can help.
Does my network contain a California tax lawyer who can help a widow straighten out a horrifying post-death earnings boondoggle? @dataandpolitics.net is the widow in question
Seriously, are there any tax lawyers who will tell a widow at the end of their rope what to do?

I don't know how to tell the iRS my husband is dead.

This should be on every national newscast. These are not 'LAW ENFORCEMENT' straight up gangs, organized crime for the purpose of making private prisons money & pure ethnic cleansing. Just revolting.
Anyone who supports this kind of thing, whatever their reason, has a broken soul.

Anyone who supports or defends the political regime that activates it cannot be trusted on any level.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.

I, for one, am shocked
On DOGE’s watch, federal spending did not go down at all. It went up. But is still led to cuts that closed offices, canceled programs and deprived people of food, medicine and other aid.

As long as Bari remains in charge no one should be considering CBS as a credible, fair and balanced news network.
So the sources “risked their lives” to speak with 60 Minutes about this concentration camp we’re sending random people to, and Bari killed the story because the Trump administration refused an interview. Am I missing something??
CBS News postponed a "60 Minutes" segment Sunday because it lacked a Trump admin interview, per an email we obtained from correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi, who said the decision by EIC Bari Weiss gave the White House a "kill switch." with @liamjscott.bsky.social
