On Sat, "No Kings" protests are being held all over the country. They were always going to be big. But after the Trump administration has spent the last week

-attacking US Senators
-threatening US Governors
-illegally sending troops to occupy US cities
-terrorizing families and unions

Will be HUGE

NIH funded research that helped scientists better understand cystic fibrosis, which led developing a cutting-edge treatment called Trikafta . 🧵

🧪Cutting NIH funding by 40% is unprecedented. It will hobble US biomedical research for a generation by depleting training funds for scientists. It will also lead to substantial job loss, in red states and blue states alike (see NC and MO below from this NYT graphic). Call your reps and senators.

Couple things here:

1. With this target deck, and the rumors that Mohammad Bagheri was also targeted, this isn’t just an attempt to dismantle their nuclear program - it’s pretty clearly a regime decapitation strike

2. Iran’s response may be delayed, but will likely be *massive*

I am not making this up.

This is a lie. We all saw the video. The Senator clearly identified himself, and he did not "lunge" toward anyone.

If these miserable propagandists will lie to you about roughing up a U.S. Senator in a room full of reporters, what won't they lie to you about?

2. Rely on a theory of inherent constitutional authority known as the protective power to authorize using the mil to protect federal functions, persons, and property. I wrote about the history (and what I see as longstanding issues with the legal analysis supporting this theory) here:
Sovereignty, Article II, and the Military during Domestic Unrest
In this article I contest two theories of inherent presidential power, rooted in Article II, to use the military to respond to domestic unrest during peacetime.

1. Authorize calling into federal service 2,000 National Guard members under an emergency mobilization authority, 10 USC 12406. As @stevevladeck.bsky.social has mentioned, all this does is put NG on federal duty orders. It doesn't substantively authorize any mission.

The Trump admin is targeting students with legal status and ripping people out of their communities without due process.

This is an attack on our Constitution and basic freedoms — and we will push back.
