tbh i think the US has always had a lot of basically illiterate adults, like they can read words but have basically no ability to extract meaning from adult-level text; AI is making it more apparent because they're incapable of proofreading the shit it spews out for them or discerning that it sucks
I'm pretty allergic to doomerism but the closest I get is when I see teachers talking about how bad it is out there. Does nobody really know how to read or write anymore

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.
