Welcome to the State of the World, November edition. Here are the stories that caught my attention this month. Cambridge oldest women only collage supports trans women Cambridge’s oldest women-only college has stated it’ll keep admitting trans women, even after the Supreme Court ruled a woman means a biological female. Newnham College, which has feminist Germaine Greer, actress Emma Thompson and presenter Clare Balding among its alumni, has created a gender policy stating it is open to all female applicants – including transgender women. Although it has been accepting trans-identified males since 2017, its new policy document enshrines their ability to access the single-sex space.

Please share this widely. There have been 13 peer-reviewed critiques of the Cass Review, to the extent that academia regards it as pseudoscience, but so far all have been subject to organised censorship by mainstream media. This is the first time one has broken through. Oz Guardian only still.
Worked hard to get this into Guardian Oz & big props to @fiercemum.bsky.social for setting it up & Melissa Davey for publishing it. She will doubtless get loads of hassle from transphobes for it, but it needs to be out there.

The trans community’s trust in the NHS’ new puberty blocker trial is low and I can’t help but wonder whether they could have prevented that by involving ANY trans people in its design or operation, and maybe not involving several people who have attended conferences of anti-LGBTQ hate groups

In this monthly tech blog post I am going to be telling you about an excellent open source suite that allows you to create your very own GeForce Now service in your home. The Problem Although I use Mac’s or iPad’s for almost all my computing tasks, there’s one thing they’re useless at: gaming. The hardware can handle gaming; you can easily get 30fps in Cyberpunk 2077 on a base model M4 Mac mini (mine does that easily with decent settings). However, unfortunately, many games aren’t available for the Mac. Additionally, storage is very expensive for Mac’s, and games aren’t getting smaller, in fact they seem to be getting bigger.

Last week, I left the Liberal Democrats to join the Green Party. These are the main reasons for my decision, even though I still support the vast majority of their policies. Steadfast support for Transgender People The Green membership is strongly unified on the rights for transgender people. 90% of party members believe people should be able to identify as a different gender than that recorded at birth, while 80% think the law should allow people to change their legal gender more easily. These figures compare to 49% and 34% respectively among the wider public.
