I was once asked, by an extremely privileged & exclusively private practice surgeon, why all Emergency Medicine doctors were socialists.

I think it's because we see the full breadth of societal failures and how for the lack of simple, cheap measures, people are wilfully kept in suffering & misery.
Stephen from the Outsiders project. He died soon afterwards aged only 39. As the cold sets in it is worth remembering that someone homeless dies on the streets in Britain every six hours. As a society we are defined by how we treat those less fortunate than ourselves.
