Half of the U.S. now requires you to upload your ID or scan your face to watch porn. Obviously creates a massive risk handing over this personal data. We've already seen this with the Discord hack which impacted ID photos, etc

Lol, Zillow tried to rate the climate risks facing individual properties. The real estate industry *hated* it, precisely because it worked -- it made selling risky properties more difficult. So they rebelled & Zillow caved.

While KOSA has taken up much of the attention in kids online safety discussions, a bill mandating app stores conduct age verification has been sweeping states and Congress. It will be discussed at tomorrow's House hearing, and just picked up Pinterest as a supporter www.theverge.com/policy/83087...

US telecom company trained an ai model to scan incarcerated people’s “calls, texts, and emails in the hope of predicting and preventing crimes.”

I think we can safely say that the Leavitt's brother called ICE on his ex, the mother of his child, and I have to say: I have no desire to respect, find common ground or share the country with these monsters.
“After Ferreira was detained, Dos Santos Rodrigues said Michael Leavitt Sr. and his father, Bob Leavitt, reached out to her.”

“‘They just kept saying, ‘Tell her to self-deport,’” she recalled. “Self-deport to where? Brazil is not her home.’” www.bostonglobe.com/2025/11/26/m...

This broader issue could be and would be drastically diminished if social media companies drastically cut back on these programs, stopped incentivizing keeping people on their own platforms, actually moderated content/deleted this type of content. But they have zero interest in doing this

X’s New Feature Reveals Why Trust & Safety Work Was Never About The ‘Censorship Industrial Complex’
For the last few years, Matt Taibbi, Michael Shellenberger, and their allies have spent considerable energy attacking both academic researchers studying disinformation and the trust & safety teams at social media platforms working to identify and remove coordinated inauthentic behavior—particularly foreign influence operations. They've insisted that any attempt to study and limit such operations is actually just "censorship" with various forms of cover, whether academic or operational.

Pretty revealing, in my view, that Scalia spent his entire career ridiculing diversity and affirmative action for underrepresented groups, given that the Reagan White House put him on the Supreme Court in part because it really, really wanted to nominate the first-ever Italian American justice
Antonin Scalia Was a Diversity Hire
The late justice spent his career ridiculing the notion that elite institutions had any interest in diversity. He might not have made the Supreme Court without it.
