reader / writer / drawer / general nuisance
my zine collection, which takes up 5 magazine files and a second shelf (not pictured) and has only grown since taking this photo. A screenshot of my piece from the Dreams issue of HNDL magazine, a prose poem called "Tell me what this one means." A geometric/floral drawing on graph paper. Me, wearing my Zine Zaddy hat and sticking out my tongue.

my hands are shaking with rage and grief. i shouldn't have to do this. the edited text on this image should not exist. this should not still be happening in 2025
a panel from my entry in Samidoon. it is sepia tone of a palestinan family walking. the caption reads "in 2024, the images from inside Gaza echo my family's storie from Palestine. the walk away from our tattered homes looks the same as 50 years ago." the 2024 is crossed out witht 2025 written next to it. my hands are shaking with rage and grief as i type

I'm not an economist but seems worrying that the whole US economy is seven companies in a trenchcoat, passing the same $20 up and down

Absolutely thrilled to share the cover to next year's short story collection coming out from @tordotcom.bsky.social! I'm obsessed with it!

Comes out March 24, 2026, but you can pre-order it now wherever you like getting your books! Here's Macmillan's link.

On a gradient background that goes from blush-pink at the top to a muddy green at the bottom, a book cover. Super-imposed on a pastoral, oil-painting style image depicting a forested foreground and a hilly background beneath a soft champagne sky, is superimposed a 3-dimensional rhomboid-shape, the facets of which play with space. One facet shows a pale cloudy sky, and from it, a brown hare emerges chasing the hind legs and bushy tail of a wolf, the rest of which vanishes out of the rhomboid frame. The rhomboid's other facets -- which create the kind of infinity loop of an Escher painting -- are either blush-pink or covered in the greenery from the background. Above the rhomboid is the title, and the subtitle "Stories"; below it are the words New York Times Bestselling & Award-winning Author Amal El-Mohtar. My name and the word "Stories" are in the same blush-pink as the rhomboid's facets.

print reproductions are hard with textured paintings using a dry brush technique, but this turned out nicely

Can’t decide what to buy on Prime Day?

Try: absolutely nothing, and then go support indie bookstores instead 📚

I think people feel the most comfortable defending old books bc they're "canon" bc we've made the mistake of trying to defend each book on its merits-- when it's not about the books at all. They're banning good books and mid books and bad books bc they want to defund public education 😤

Um, ICE just coldly shot an unarmed PRIEST in the head w a pepper ball when he (and everyone around him) clearly posed no threat.

For the crime of … complaining about government policy.

Core 1A speech.

With cameras rolling, they’re sniping priests for sport.

Cranston and Barrington both have large media conversion labs! This page in the online catalog lists the different services and tech among RI libraries:

*fear of being cut or underfunded or shut down entirely, specifically. forgot for a sec what the "F" in FOMO stands for 😅
kmbezner.bsky.social
It was much appreciated! It's being pushed really hard on libraries and schools as you know, and it's especially tough because we are already often seen as "outdated," so the FOMO among librarians is deeply rooted in fear and makes resistance that much harder. But NOT impossible!

was feeling discouraged seeing much pro-ai sentiment at a LIBRARY conference-from folks who have spent careers advocating for data privacy, information literacy, and responsible tech use-but the closing keynote from @alexhanna.bsky.social is giving me hope that we can resist "ai" in our info spaces

In honor of National Poetry Day, the greatest parody rewrite of all time:
Screen cap of parodic version of William Blake's "The Tyger" that begins:
Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright
(Not sure if I spelled that right)
What immortal hand or eye
Could fashion such a stripy guy?
What the hammer that hath hewn it
Into such a chonky unit?
Did who made the lamb make thee,
Or an external franchisee?

I wish more pubs got this! It's like they see every library checkout as a sale lost, when really it's a reader who might have otherwise never read the book. A reader who may now read more of your books, or even enjoy it so much they go buy their own copy!

Right. In light of a bunch of annoying turds equating being rude about genAI with bigotry, and insults about code being the same thing as slurs, here's a quick thread on the actual inclusion/marginalisation/discrimination impact of *using* genAI tools.
