Losing my mind and what look like video game assets but instead were used to justify war crimes and genocide in the real world
NEW: Since October 2023, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit has released dozens of 3D animations illustrating alleged Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iranian sites

The style is unmistakable: satellite zoom-ins, black & white wireframes, and red-textured houses - a new visual language of war.Our analysis of 43 official IDF videos found recycled 3D environments, spatial inaccuracies, and assets lifted from unrelated artists and institutions. We traced over 30 unique assets to Washington-based 3D creator Ian Hubert, who makes bespoke models created for his sci-fi project Dynamo Dream, available to his Patreon subscribers.

Models of parking lots, antennas, + pipes were repurposed as Hamas and Iranian military sites @evanhill

Fascinating work here tracing how the IDF recycled 3D assets from a cyberpunk sci-fi art project, the Scottish Maritime Museum and elsewhere to populate its widely-seen models of supposed enemy locations in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran. One of the most infamous, the alleged underground Hamas command center at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, used to justify an unprecedented assault on the biggest medical center in Gaza, was actually an animation the IDF had used the previous year, saying at the time it was a tunnel beneath a UN school.

Right!? It's pretty great. I'm so stoked for them and what this means for the game.

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

Many years ago I did a show called Sagas of Sundry.

It was immersive horror, great storytelling, and reality show style skill challenges.

Now I want to bring it back, but call it Tales of Dread.

But I need your help. So I'm taking this project to Kickstarter.

This was a super fun visual to create. Learned a ton of new techniques courtesy of @andrewbeauman.com, the amazing artist behind so much of Mörk Sol's visual language.

#mörktober Day 7 - Shard

Scourge Artifacts. Always dangerous, and usually tempting. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t be so valuable.

A projection of the future (or past?) looms in its reflection, bleak and twisted by the object’s inherent malevolence. Temporal Sliver. Space holds firm in the reflection as time slides towards the mind’s eye. When you observe… THE PAST… to observe is to change. Test DR14 Spine. On success, swap two of your abilities. On fail, die. For example, there was a recent game that I wanted to back because the asymmetric PC system was really clever and exciting. However the vibe was Another Heroic Fantasy, so I couldn't justify the back. That's a genre I have plenty of options for.
krasiph.bsky.social
I want to see something that...

1. Delivers a strong, clear vibe/tone that I can't get elsewhere
2. Has an interesting mechanic, be that a totally new core game loop or a novel remix on a familiar framework

What's that one thing that makes you insta-buy an #IndieGame? Perfect piece of art? Killer premise? A specific, weird mechanic they mention? Tell us about the hook that gets you every time.

If you wanna see indie creators succeed, remember you can always write reviews, talk about your play experience, do shoutouts, plenty of stuff that helps so much since there's only so many places that offer us outreach, especially if we are outside of the D&D/OSR space

As quick example: this section outlines things to think about when designing a forest creature, and then gives specific applications for the aforementioned systems. So this book is HIGHLY flexible and really useful for way more than just D&D.

It's a chonky book (complimentary!) and very practical.
Keith's new book is opened to a page that describes using forests, then gives specific examples in the multiple systems listed in the previous post.

Duginthroat Divided launched on KS.

It is one of those rare instances of a work I am proud of.

I was able to push some angles in ways that got my brain firing up right.

I was able to witness something come to form that made me appreciate a modality I otherwise often ignore.

I endorse the work.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."
