"It's just concept art, who cares if they use genAI and not actual artists?"

Look at this concept art for C-3P0 by Ralph McQuarrie.

It's the very thing that inspired Anthony Daniels to go for the role of Threepio and perform him as such.

It is the first heartbeat of the art that now exists.

Playing Earthbound for the first time ever in 2025 is fascinating, actually. You're just a kid and the world's gone mad. All the adults are useless at best or trying to kill you at worst. Everyone talks like a crazy person. Everything's too expensive. Your next door neighbor wants to be a dictator.

for some reason the conversation about game preservation rediscovers entropy every couple of months or so with regards to physical media. discs indeed, do rot. so do hard drives. so do *people*, for that matter.

it's just kind of a non-point. everything you can store a game on fails eventually.

Yuuku preserved King's Field Mobile, a previously-lost King's Field i-mode game. A retelling of the PS1 original, it has different map layouts and an auto-map. For a real-time 3D 2004 keitai game, it's very ambitious. There's already an English patch too!

they finally did it. they invented a machine that can't run doom.
You can try the Microsoft just released a Quake 2 demo that runs on genAI.

It forgets where you are you each time you look at the floor and soft-locks when it's to dark. A technological marvel.

You can try the "Copilot Gaming Experience" here: copilot.microsoft.com/wham

I’m making some slides for my “how fog works in Silent Hill on PS1” video.

And the best way to show how PS1 works is on PS1 itself, right?

So I just made the best slide ever… 😂

I am an elder millennial. We were the last generation to drink from the hose. We played Nintendo and the loser would drink from the hose. We got summer jobs, earning $5 an hour drinking from the hose. We had no cell phones; if we were out late our parents had to trust we were drinking from the hose.

We've seen hot plates be used to manipulate RNG and now we've seen freezers be used to presumably keep the hardware in a predictable state. Really excited to enter a speedrunning age where consoles are kept in sous vide bags in water to maintain a constant temperature as the next evolution.
This is crazy interesting: Super Nintendos are getting *faster* as the hardware ages. We spoke to the person who discovered this and has been collecting more data. They even put a SNES in the freezer to test a hypothesis
