A small (personal) example of this book’s intellectual dishonesty:

My father-in-law is reading In Covid’s Wake, and excitedly told me he found a passage where I’m quoted. The quote in question is me saying the FBI worked to censor speech on social media.

Huh? When did I say that?!

This is genuinely horrifying. Fact-free far-right agitprop given accolades by credible media across the political spectrum.
Congratulations to Stephen Macedo & Frances Lee, whose book In Covid's Wake has been recognized as:

This is what Bari Weiss et al think "censorship" actually is; when subordinates criticize their superiors. That has been the bedrock of the entire "cancel culture" discourse in elite media; rage at the idea that students, women, journalists, interns, etc might be able to speak against the boss.
The CBS reporter who led the story calls pulling it a "political" decision.
"The decision was made after Bari Weiss, the new editor in chief of CBS News, requested numerous changes to the segment."

Bah, humbug! Is that a little strong? I think it is, no, I think it is. People will say I don't like Christmas, can you believe that. They're wrong, they're wrong. I love Christmas, it's perhaps my most favourite holiday ever. In the history, folks, isn't that amazing.

Popularism is flawed because “voters support X” does not mean “voters will support candidate who supports X.” It’s not what issues you support as a candidate; it’s what those issues say about you.

Everytime I watch a car review video on YouTube, they talk about how great the touch screen is and how like a phone or a tablet it is and I'm like "and this is a good thing???"
knobs > touchscreens in cars
every damn day
given how much cheaper touchscreens are than having to tool and manufacture physical switchgear, the safety data must be really bad for automakers to be voluntarily shifting back to real controls

One of the great failures of contemporary political news coverage in a lot of media is the unspoken principle that no violation of norms or decency by Trump is really news, worthy of sustained attention, unless it also upsets people who love him. It isn't "not taking the bait"; it's sleepwalking.

I will cancel my paid @mozilla.org VPN subscription if I have to spend any more than three seconds a month disabling AI bullshit in my browser.
December 17, 2025 at 12:05 AM
So far, @mozilla.org's AI push has just been a waste of their resources, since most of the AI features in @firefox.com have been opt-in. It's disturbing to see that they want to change minor waste into a major waste that will lose them their dedicated userbase (myself included).
Mozilla has a new CEO and he just announced that Firefox will evolve into a modern AI browser. This is a good example of how management doesn’t understand its own user base and why they go out of their way to install Firefox on Windows, Android, iOS and other devices blog.mozilla.org/en/mozilla/l...

"Never spread the lie in the headline" should be a hard rule of 21st century journalism.

Research shows that repeating lies helps to spread them, and people read headlines more than they read stories.
News media has to do better with headlines that present false and unverified public health claims.

you don't have to love it but if someone with a new baby asks you wear a propeller beanie, you can just do it
A friend with a new baby asked guests to mask in order to hold her baby. A relative refused to mask & broke down in tears about her "restrictions"

As a reminder, babies <6 months have the 2nd highest hospitalization rate from Covid after adults 75+ & are too young to be vaxxed
