UFO beams may be my favorite genre of art. I had so many notebook pages full of beam doodles (usually right next to the mushroom clouds -- hey it was the 80s!)
Last chance to sign up for my art blog newsletter before the next issue's out tomorrow! 70s-sci-fi-art.ghost.io

See if you can guess the topic from this sneak peek, featuring Stephen Youll, Tim White, an uncredited artist, and Gage Taylor with Uriel Dana.

SLUMBERLAND [Pays de Rêve] (Jacques Tati, 1969)

A vacationing Monsieur Hulot aimlessly wanders the bustling, relentlessly modern landscape of Los Angeles until he ultimately dissolves into the phantasmagorical trompe l'oeil that is Hollywood.

If someone clicked on you in an RTS, what would your voice lines be?

"Yeah?"
"What do you need?"
"What's up?"
"I'm hungry."
"And tired."
"Alright, jeez."
"I'm working on it."
"You get the next chapter when it's done."
"Do I have to?"
*Unhinged cackling*
"Sorry about that."

They called them Near Abroad Direct Action Operations, NADA Ops. The "joke" in the CalSec cafeterias, which made its way out later in the hearings was that "What does the operator say when asked if there are civilians in the area? Nada...oops!". Even decades later, Arizona didn't find it funny.

*enormous* torchship progress today. as of right now, the core rules section (all the foundational rules everything else keys off of) is *done*. It's 36 thousand words!

We've been hitting our heads against it for a long while because it has to carry *so much game* but it's finally, *finally* done

today on torchship beta progress, we're punching up and strengthening the role of the investigative checklist mechanics, ensuring they're better anchored into the core loop of gameplay. I'm really proud of this construction.

Hey, remember that racing game engine I wrote a little while ago?

It's now RAYRACING!

I've completely revamped and expanded it with new rules for relationships, reputation, NPC cars, and achieving Speed Nirvana to exceed the speed of light.

this is less common because self identifying as a transhumanist has died down now that LLMs have dragged futurism's name through the mud, but the fact that some people called themselves transhumanists and were also transphobic still offends me on a deep, aching level, right in my bones

Lexie and I have been going through Torchship doing this rules rewrite that's basically just addressing all the tech debt from four years of writing + reformatting for clarity, and colour-coding text (bold for essential rules, blue for examples, and red for commentary) works so well??
