It feels like the end of an era, but it's not. THE LAST VIDEO STORE is your local public library!

Browse thousands of titles just like you used to. And many libraries carry video games too.

Make it a Blockbuster night? No, make it a library night!

Remember, many public libraries carry video games now!

You can ask your local librarian for a game recommendation just like you would for a book.

Seems to me that the fact that interested people can’t find games they find interesting and maybe don’t even know they exist is (a) obvs true so dunking on it is dumb and (b) a massive fucking problem for the artform that the corporate sector of the industry has no interest *at all* in solving

I've been borrowing movies/TV shows from the library a lot more recently, and it's really nice! Especially when it comes to stuff that is before the year 2000, which most streaming services treat like poison.

A lot of libraries also have physical media you can check out. Our local system has movies, audiobooks TV etc. I do realize it’s not practical to always do that, but it’s a good option! Also getting involved in your local library & its board can help!

I think a good first step for people would be to see what streaming services they have access to through their local library. I get Kanopy and there is so much good TV content on there that you get for free!

Reminder, you can borrow all of your favorite (and favorite-to-be) discs from your local public library for free.

TV’s only getting more expensive as price hikes at services like Netflix, Hulu, and Apple TV+ become the norm. Four of the biggest services have more than doubled in price since launch, but that’s not the full picture of costs in the streaming era.

“There’s this false notion that everything is online and you can access anything. And it’s just simply not true. There’s so much content that hasn’t been digitized, that isn’t available online.”

The Score

I haven’t seen it in 20 years, but I remember really liking it. Maybe it’s time for a rewatch.

Good morning. Over at @inc.com, I profiled the founders of Brooklyn's new video store, two movie-loving millennials who believe that DVDs and Blu-rays are on the verge of a vinyl-style resurgence and are betting big with a brick-and-mortar store.

A local video store owner informed me that kids in their 20s are buying up all his VHS horror movies because they think it's "scarier due to the graininess of the video" and that was the most heart-warming thing I've heard in a long time.

Just a reminder that your local library has more than books! Many also have dvds, cds, board games, video game systems, internet hot spots, streaming services, computers, ebooks, audio books, park passes, museum passes, passport services and so much more!
Maybe it's time for a visit 📚❤️
