The 'car park' side of the Shore is crying out for a rethink👇
sw20.info
Space for a few cars or several businesses to have seating? Which is better for the economy?
The Shore, Edinburgh. Car parking, not seating, on both sides of a pretty street. South Queensferry. Car parking, not seating, on both sides of a pretty street.

The evidence shows this hasn't happened in Leith - overall traffic levels are down across the area, including on all boundary roads except one.

We're back! We've teamed up with @cyclinguk.bsky.social for a Glow Ride on Friday 24th October. Like us, they want to see more women cycling, and for councils to provide more safe infrastructure to enable that.
Light up your bike with lights and sparkle and join us at Middle Meadow Walk at 7.30pm.

Hi @jackrmcaldwell.bsky.social - any update on the works restarting? And please can bollards be installed to protect the pedestrian area and cycle lane as part of this project? The parking is getting worse by the day. @spokes.org.uk @edi.bike

So much for side-on parking on Elm Row - drivers parked right into the cycleway and on the pedestrian access/crossing to the bus stop. @jackrmcaldwell.bsky.social

This picture from the newspaper article looks like an 'artists impression' of what things could like that no-one ever believes, except it's real and it really does look like that.

Basic principles for the future of the car in cities:

✅ Fewer
✅ Smaller
✅ Slower
✅ Cleaner

This can be achieved with:

✅ Parking controls
✅ LTNs
✅ Road User Pricing
✅ Pedestrianisation
✅ Default 20mph roads
✅ Improved public transport
✅ Segregated cycling

People commonly say their street is too narrow for bike lanes.

Too few question if it’s too narrow for parking.

Any plans to scale up the roll-out of bikehangars @stephenjenkinson.bsky.social @cyclehoop.bsky.social ? Demand far outstripping supply at the moment.

There are now 4,400 people waiting for a spot in a secure cycle hangar in Edinburgh - that figure has grown by nearly 1,000 in just the last year. My map of hangars and demand can be found here: rpubs.com/edtiss/hangars

#bikeSky
A wide, grey asphalt path stretches to the horizon under a bright blue sky; on the right, flanked by yellowed grass and mature trees, and on the left by a hedge giving way to the red stone chips of a rail bed with overhead wires. It is a dry day with a smattering of clouds in the sky.
