Totally agree! And beside the difficulty of publishing, such null or neutral results are sometimes difficult to manage by students, while they can be rock solid or great for consolidating our knowledge.

Communiqué de presse Hauts-de-France - L’institut national de recherche pour l’agriculture, l’alimentation et l’environnement (INRAE) vient de recruter deux chaires de professeur junior dans les Hauts-de-France pour renforcer ses équipes de recherche sur les thématiques de l’hygiène agroalimentaire et de la bioéconomie. Marwan Abdallah va apporter ses compétences sur les stratégies durables de lutte contre les biofilms dans les industries agroalimentaires au sein de l’unité UMET, basée à Villeneuve-d’Ascq. Shule Wang travaillera sur l’évaluation et l’optimisation du potentiel de production de biomasse pour la transition énergétique et agroécologique au sein de l’unité transfrontalière BioEcoAgro, sur les sites INRAE d'Estrées-Mons et Laon.

And "nothing (or little) has been done on..." encourages niche research, or very local studies, while "we build on" encourages consolidation, generalisation, which to me is great. That idea that you should always address a "research gap" is killing research.

Saw this on twitter. I totally agree with this. I've seen many papers that failed to cite something important from another field or subfield of study. Many researchers these days are very focused on their own field and don't have time to learn the advances in another field.
