Hi, I'm Liv, a woodcut printmaker and finalist for the Artist World Fantasy Award this year. All of my 2D art is sketched, hand-carved in wood, then inked and printed on my etching press. Sometimes I add color with watercolors, or gilding. #art #woodcut #printmaking

Somehow, even when it's not a Frogby comic, he still ends up in it cause I just love drawing him so much

Ideas can be transformed

Frogby, a little pink frog with a beret and a paintbrush stands in front of a blank canvas with the idea of painting a flower, but the blank canvas has been mucked up by a little frog gremlin while Frogby sighs, "I helped" says the gremlin, proudly, looking at the canvas, no longer pristine. "Wait", says Frogby. He has an idea. Using the giant smudge as a starting point, Frogby has transformed the marred canvas into a beautiful butterfly. The little gremlin says "I love it!" helpfully.

I feel like art classes in general pushed hard on life drawing and still life. I kind of get where that comes from, but can be limiting.

a while back i posted about kneadable erasers & the many reasons i love them. one of the reasons is being able to make quick little sculptures to help me figure out poses, lighting, etc

a very quick & rough little salmon sculpted out of a kneadable grey eraser. the eraser has been used, so it's marbled with black streaks from pencil leads

Pulled it out and used it as a reference. Needed to draw some knots, so I found some cord and tied some knots. I'm not aiming for precise realism in my art, but the knot I draw looking at an actual knot is more interesting than the one I draw just imagining it with no reference.

I periodically see people worrying over using references to draw. USE THEM! I use photos, take them myself when I can, and go scrounging around if I have something handy. Like last night, I started thinking about looking up owl talons, then remembered I have a pendant cast from an actual owl talon.

There are plenty of reasons to hate AI but can we all get straight that an AI "feature" on a site doesn't mean they're training on that site's data.

Because they're training on all the data everywhere, AI features or no.

Hive provides genAI services, but Bsky has no stake in that part of the company and there is no financial incentive for them to provide the data themselves. If Hive, or any company, wants to scrape the entirety of Bsky like any other site, they can. I can't find it in me to be mad about this anymore

The other day, a neighbor texted me about a "chicken" in my yard. I looked just as it flew off, and it definitely wasn't a chicken. Confirmed today that it was a vulture.
