Demand the Impossible - from Common/Wealth Theatre at the Corn Exchange Newport. Incredibly powerful and well-researched interactive experience showing the effect of police harassment on people's lives. Immense talent. I will just say go and see it if you get the chance

If the state wants to render us passive and hopeless, Common/Wealth are having none of it. They're asking you, the audience, to wake up, feel it in your bones, and maybe — just maybe — demand the impossible, too ✍️Adam Johannes wp.me/p8Mk4U-16TY

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Yeah, but, the culture warriors want to defend culture that has never actually existed - not actual culture that you can study.
Best not, therefore, to have people who know too much about actual real life culture.

Worst thing is that UK Vice Chancellors are already on board with this kind of gross crap, choosing to cut existing arts, social sciences, and humanities programmes back to the bone even before the politicians (of whichever party) come for them.

So, the plan is to cut English, the arts, and sociology - the degrees that actually study culture - while on another part of your platform claiming to “defend” British culture.

It’s performance nationalism with a reading age of seven.
Badenoch: Curb students taking 'rip-off' degrees such as English
The performing arts, sociology and anthropology are among the subjects the Conservatives would like to cut

We're ready for Starbucks to come back to the table and finish finalizing our union contracts. A single day's sales would settle contracts with 12,000 workers! Starbucks calls us "partners" - it's time they start treating us as such, or else we'll be leading our stores on strike!

Our next pod takes apart the Senedd reform package which sees expansion to 96 members and a new - and universally unpopular - voting system.

So why are the Welsh Conservatives talking about numbers? Lauren, Lee and @lauramcallister30.bsky.social have different takes! #Senedd26 #Cymru #Wales

Netpol's 'State of Protest' report for 2024 launched with a stark title: ‘This is Repression’. On the second anniversary of the continuing genocide in Gaza, it is hard to know what we will call our assessment of protest rights for 2025.

Perhaps ‘An End to Our Illusions’? netpol.org/2025/10/06/a...

So-called #genAI means the abolition of the future through the proliferation of endless streams of stochastically rendered generic pasts. Having turned large parts of the cultural archive into training data, it now traps us in a foreverized pastness, a 24/7 nostalgia for a past that never existed

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections
