I named my fists War and Peace because... Forget it. It'll take too long to explain.
I named my fists Pride and Prejudice, because it is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of two fists must be in want of whupping ass
I named my fists Common and Sense because I'm about to bring the Paine

Turkiye? On Thanksgiving?
Pope Leo XIV embarked on his first international trip as pontiff on Thursday, traveling to Turkey to start a six-day tour that will also include Lebanon. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/27/w...

Is it opposite day? This is literally my two favorite pies followed by my most hated pie.
Apple pie is bad. This is not really debatable. So is key lime pie, while we’re on the topic. Pecan pie is the 🐐 tho.

My right brain: Of course. Preheat has been around forever in cooking. English isn't always logical, and trying to force heat to replace preheat is futile.

My left brain: This is the first slide down the slippery slope to "pre-planning."
Several years ago, the Stylebook advised that you heat your oven, because "preheat" is redundant.
That might be true linguistically, but we heard you. Common usage in cookbooks calls for preheating.

White turkeys.

He pardoned white turkeys.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. He's been pardoning white turkeys his whole administration.

Great. Another rich 71-year-old white male anti-vaxxer in a federal health role, because the current one is working out so well.

Oh look. Manufacturers can save the American economy by making their products more fragile and short-lived.

Deliberate enshittification is patriotic now!

He will insist on doctors and doctors only.

I just hope they can find enough people with PhDs in ethical philosophy to take the job.
As someone who is going to be needing *lots* of care from nurses in the very near future, maybe it wasn't the best idea to insult all of them. But Donald is smart like that.

How many bagels are they taking to space that they need more than one tank of lox?
lol this image from last night shows SpaceX is popping open LOX tanks during routine pressure testing. The Starship program was being hyped as closing in on rapid commercial launch cadence 2-3 years ago

I love every time I discover a new way our thoughts on handedness have affected English: sinister, gauche, adroit, ambidextrous ("R-handed on both sides"), left-handed wife (a concubine) ...
Although the exact figures vary slightly from place to place, no human population exists in which left-handedness is more common than right-handedness.
Why are most people right-handed?
A mix of biology, environment, and evolution helps explain our rightie-dominated world.

I also discovered that @bcdreyer.social is blocking me?

WTF did I do, Ben?!
November 20, 2025 at 8:51 PM
Have just been reminded by @bcdreyer.social that it's time
A) to remind writers (especially of headlines) to forget the phrase "'Tis the Season" even exists. But also (if you must):
B) You can create the correct-facing opening apostrophe in Word by holding down Ctrl and pressing ' twice.

A) I hope this passes into (UK) law.
B) I hope we see something similar in the US, though I"m sure we'll have to wait until we get past the gov't era of White Men and Capitalism Before All Else.

I just learned that my son landed a new job — more responsibility, better pay, nicer commute.

I recognize this good news doesn't affect you, BlueSkyer, but it's still some good news floating among the infinite sewer that is the current news cycle. Something good happened to a good kid!
