SCOOP @motherjones.com: Republicans want to ban pets from domestic violence shelters through a proposal in the budget

Advocates say the program is small but critical: “Survivors won’t leave, they can’t leave [abusers], if they’re going to leave their pets behind"

This is the purest politicization of science there is.
Scientists and expert advisors said one thing and RFK, a political appointee, overruled them.

Repubs want to kill real science in America via political control, while whining falsely that it was liberals who politicized science.
We see you 👏

3 days ago RFK Jr. told the CDC to stop recommending water fluoridation, claiming it was a neurotoxin (this is a lie).

Turns out he also just eliminated the CDC’s entire Lead Program, and now lead poisoned children in Milwaukee are just on their own. Lead IS a neurotoxin and harms brain development
CDC denies help for lead poisoning in Milwaukee schools due to layoffs
The CDC rejected a request for help "due to the complete loss" of their lead poisoning experts.

‼️ mRNA vaccines look like they will be cancer cures.

The Trump admin is politicizing many aspects of science, instead of letting scientists do their best work to help the public.
It's very bad.

Yes. The situation at NIH is worse than the public realizes.

The #NIH is on track to be effectively ended as a funder of evidence-based research within a year.

That is not an exaggeration. The firings and consolidation announced today will create a new, MUCH worse NIH.

2:30pm Eastern. There is a livestream.

This would be better in primetime and produced for TV, like the Jan 6 Committee did.

CDC has never had authority to give or enforce mandates. CDC is essentially an advisor. States implement that advice to varying degrees. When republicans say they want to reform CDC's authority they mean remove the ability to make recommendations. This is exactly what Project 2025 calls for.

House Republicans just voted to gut Medicaid, which covers 1 in 5 Americans overall, including 41% of births and 63% of nursing home care.

They also just voted to gut SNAP, on which 41 million food insecure Americans rely.

This won’t just harm people. This will kill people.

⚠️ Effective Monday 2/10/25, NIH indirect rate capped at 15%. Applies to existing & future grants.

Is this the break the glass moment for university administrators who have been silent so far about the attack on science?

“The NIH freeze harms research and patients and must be lifted immediately.”

Be brief. Staffers tally all calls. Go! ✅
NIH funding supports the vast majority of all biomedical research in the United States. Virtually every advance in American medicine and biological science comes from NIH. This is a blow against American science.

Call Congress, 202-224-3121.
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
