It's a really scary time. Our president is rattling sabers across the globe. Government thugs are shooting people in the streets.

This is a good week to go to a meeting in your community, in person if possible. Be with others and remember: YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Regrettably, I have been writing about explicit deepfakes on and off for the last half decade, and public nature, openness and scale of what is happening on X with Grok is off the charts.

At the same time, Grok is claiming a surge in app downloads in multiple countries around the world

This is the kind of thing that the Founders explicitly designed our constitution to prevent; a president who has seized wealth for his own benefit without any intervention from Congress, which in our system is supposed to be the holder of the power of the purse.
Trump on Venezuela oil:

seriously alarming.
Precedents like this render him immune from future gov’t shutdowns. He doesn’t need the legislature’s funds if he can create massive slush funds for himself by looting foreign nations and extorting US companies. He’s achieving escape velocity from our system & Congress is just watching.
Trump: “I am pleased to announce that the Interim Authorities in Venezuela will be turning over between 30 and 50 MILLION Barrels of High Quality, Sanctioned Oil, to the United States of America. This Oil will be sold at its Market Price, and that money will be controlled by me, as President”

yes and.. shut it down till... what specific conditions?
If Trump is really stealing spending power from Congress then it would be insanity for Democrats to vote to fund the government later this month. Shut it down until the president stops wiping his ass with the Constitution.

casual whitewashing. gross.
As you can see in this video, not only is Grok doing formal business partnerships with other major technology companies, some of the tech journalists covering it are incredibly not mentioning that Grok is currently a massive, unchecked sexual abuse system that includes children as victims

If the DEA had killed 80 innocent Americans in the course of apprehending one drug dealer, there would be riots. But we are so ghoulishly indifferent to the lives and humanity of people abroad that it's barely even part of the conversation.
A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.
