A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

For instance, in 2019, the economy was the same for everyone. But if you lived in a right-leaning news and social environment, the NARRATIVE around the economy was that it was the best of all time. But if you lived in a left-leaning news and social environment, the narrative was gloomier.

Speech may not be regulated by THE GOVERNMENT, but the constraints and processes built into publishing, broadcasting, the scientific press, etc., all served as a type of institutional structure regulating speech - helping ensure that untrue ideas didn't spread widely simply because people liked them
Here’s the thing - long before the internet it was a norm of free speech that, if you take the soapbox at Speaker’s Corner and rail, you invite & have to deal with incoming. You may speak back, of course, but it won’t be stanched thereby. Free speech (not just social) is “vast & unregulated space.”
