there are of course many examples of political constituencies that have in fact killed scores of children (en route to some other evil goal), but I can't offhand think of any historical examples of a political constituency organized for that specific purpose
Breaking: After contentious debates and three failed attempts at a vote, a federal vaccine committee decided on Friday to end the decades-long recommendation that all newborns be immunized at birth against hepatitis B.

I don't know if it's a good model of the math, but I've found a helpful analogy for dealing with LLM behavior is to think of the whole thing like a map of language use, and it interprets the prompt as a map coordinate. That part of the map can have a lot of detail or not, or weird splotchy bits.

Why do economists care about inequality in incomes and wealth?

1) Inequality tends to dampen overall economic performance. One of most immediacy effects is on consumer spending. Low-and middle-income households spend a larger percentage of each dollar that they earn when more spending is in…

Once I started becoming more politically active.. people would often say “oh, a data scientist, you’re smart, you should run for office” and honestly intelligence (in the way that they mean) isn’t even in the top 3 characteristics you need/want in a politician
this basically articulates why i lost interest in "intelligence"
Yudkowsky is from the silicon valley techfash milieu, which firmly believes intelligence is whatever gives me personally a high score in being very good and cool and of the correct race

Why would anyone ever need a thousand Mozarts? Surely at some point we can collectively say “enough, that’s enough Mozarts”.
I don’t know why this incenses me as much as it does, but it does:

we very likely have a thousand plus Mozarts *right now*. But they make non-Western art in economically destitute conditions so they have to do other work to pay bills; if you cared, UBI’d be more important to you than going to space
Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk say human population not nearly big enough: ‘If we had a trillion humans, we would have at any given time a thousand Mozarts’
“I think in a lot of these endeavors we're very like-minded,” Bezos said of himself and Musk regarding getting humans into space.

Cynicism is born of fear.
Fear turns to anger; and, anger needs a target; which, in turn becomes hate.
I have heard far too many of these excuses, just about boycotts.

Don't do this.

It's all getting going in Victoria now. Covid, flu, RSV, it's even looking like a good year for Influenza B.

This would be an excellent weekend to book in covid & flu shots at your pharmacy.

And pleasepleaseplease: If you're feeling sick, stay home.🙏

More police rioting:

Police charge and overrun a barricade that is not even being held by anyone, randomly shooting rounds into protestors as fireworks are shot into the area.

Video is at 2x speed, so it's not quite this fast.

Labor has now received two mandates to transition to renewable energy. This one bigger than the last.

That means more solar, more wind and more storage to firm it up.

Bring it on

Today’s rate cut shows the progress we’ve made on inflation together.

It won’t solve every problem, but it will help.

Under Labor, inflation is down, wages are up, unemployment is low & now interest rates have started to come down too. #auspol #ausecon
