Random thoughts from my brain. Expect romance novels, soccer, board games, and the 614 (I contain multitudes).
I need a book with Ocean’s 8 vibes. Like sort of a mystery but also maybe a heist? Definitely written by a woman.

We aren't boycotting the arts; we are refusing to entertain fascists and white nationalists. Cry harder about it while you listen to Kid Rock and try so hard to pretend it isn't basic, boring, uninspired tripe.

wealthy business owners and investors saw what happened during covid when people had enough extra money and flexibility to assert their power or quit their shitty jobs. sever the tie between insurance and employment and that only compounds.
Millions of Americans remain at jobs they hate for one reason: the health insurance they receive. That’s absurd.

Universal health care will give Americans the freedom to choose the work they want without worrying about health care coverage.

Another reason for Medicare for All.

The soapbox I will always get on is that the problems with our education system will never be satisfyingly resolved until we fix the problems with our capitalist system.

It's hard to get kids to prioritize learning over grade chasing when the consequence for not having all A's is future survival.

T-minus 5 days to my colonoscopy (congrats for hitting 45! You get a colonoscopy!) my diet doesn’t set the world on fire but I do ok. Such that eating a low fiber diet filled with white foods is really hard.

12YO girl signed up to do “stand up comedy” at the talent show. 13YO boy decided to heckle her. Teacher started to tell the boy to leave her alone, but the 12YO comedian said “no, no, let him go, this is the closest he’s ever going to get to having a conversation with a girl.”

An enraging trend right now, from CBS to the CDC, of people actively undermining institutions, then taking the reins of those institutions and claiming they need to rebuild the trust they helped destroy. (Also, people already trusted 60 Minutes.) bsky.app/profile/just...
Bari Weiss just sent this Christmas Eve email to the CBS News staff about "building trust," which includes her tripling down on spiking the CECOT piece "to make sure it's comprehensive and fair."

One CBS staffer tells me: "She really has no idea how insulting she comes across."

Career technical is the latest buzzword but it tends to come at the expense of problem solving, artistic expression, and literacy.

Instead of doing employee training for companies, we need to teach kids how to become adults who can think and problem solve and take care of themselves.

I think we put too much focus on teaching kids "job skills" instead of teaching them thinking, problem solving, and life skills.

Your high school class teaching you to use the current industry software isn't going to be as valuable as your school teaching you how to research and solve a problem.

People must grasp the idea of “media capture.”
It’s when authoritarian regimes and/or their powerful allies take control of media to stifle independent voices holding the government to account.
It’s one way Hungary’s Viktor Orbán keeps power.
In the U.S., it’s what the Ellisons have done with CBS.

This part. Wherever my books have sold well in translation, it has been because the translators have been gifted writers in their own right, who have brought my words to life in their own language. I am grateful for their talent and their craft.
As a multiple language speaker it's also frustrating to see people using AI for translation because the English speaking world tends to treat translators like workers for hire instead of co authors of text and this feels like more of it. Translation at the literary level is creative work.

None of this is “good faith political debate,” and it’s not a coincidence that all these outlets are suddenly interested in the same “discussion” at the same time.

Why decline all these chances to defend feminism? Because to participate would be accepting the premise that our rights and humanity are up for debate in the first place.

Once you’ve conceded that it’s reasonable to ask whether women’s equality was a mistake, you’ve already lost.
