Me: I'd like to revisit our conversation last month about hiring a new CEO for our startup. We had a candidate who was very tall and had great hair, but some of the board was hesitating because he was a giraffe. You urged us to go ahead with the hire, pointing out the broad popularity of giraffes among people of all ages. Now, a month into his tenure as CEO, the giraffe has failed to make a single executive decision, and instead spends his time in the campus courtyard stripping the trees of leaves. While the candidate’s towering stature and enviable hair made a strong initial impression, I failed to adequately account for his species-specific limitations, particularly his lack of business acumen, human language fluency, and capacity for boardroom strategy beyond “find tree, eat leaves.”

Building on Blake's post, if there's one book I recommend everyone read about the eruption, it's Richard Waitt's work. IMHO, this is *the* book.

I have fond memories of the cover art for Tanith Lee's novel RED AS BLOOD simply because the act of creation was so enjoyable. I still regret selling the painting. 1/3
A ghastly pale woman with raven hair and blood red lips reclines lazily on the stone stoop at the entrance to a cottage. Behind her a hag proffers a perfect red apple. The stones wall is weathered and mossy green. The roof is an arch of overgrown branches. Weight resting on one hip, the woman props herself up with arm extended. Embroidered with red flowers, the square neckline of her simple white dress plunges deeply, exposing the hint of her areolae. As she rests back with legs at an angle, her big toe teases the eye socket of a skull set in the lush green vegetation on the ground.
