The 2024 Little Richard documentary, I Am Everything, is currently streaming on C4 in the UK. Ignore the usual talking heads who appear at the start as this is excellent. Particularly good on the "queer" subculture of the American South. youtu.be/4YC8WUrWtZY?...

So many memoirs, so many chances for me to ask, "Who the hell is this person and what did they contribute to the world?"

Had this bugged out dream that I was lying on a strangers couch and when asked what I was doing, replied that I was waiting for the Black Surrealists meeting to begin.

Remember when David Foster Wallace named his ten favorite books and everyone assumed he was joking because they were mostly genre fiction?

Richard Matheson is best known for novels, like I AM LEGEND, and his TWILIGHT ZONE scripts. But he also wrote stories for men's adventure magazines, like this Western story in MEN, July 1958, illustrated by Stan Borack. Inspired by this 1970 photo of an old poolhall once located on 150th Street and Amsterdam Ave, I wrote a short story called "Last Pocket." Yesterday I learned that the story was accepted for publication in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine. As the premier crime fiction publication, it's so exciting.

I won't shame you, but I love that movie so much. The soundtrack has served as my writing music for years.

I dig that photo. I saw this movie when I was in my early 20s (in a theater) and hated it. Twenty years later I watched it again and loved it.
