As a vocal fare-free transit advocate, I am prepared to be wrong.
Walker makes a number of good, data-and-experience-based arguments against "fare-free" in this thread, including, "if poor people can't afford the fare, give them money for the fare." Which . . . well, that makes sense.

I'm am experienced cycling commuter who has no idea what "hug the road" might mean.

The new law to keep a one metre distance when passing is meaningless if this is the way it plays out.

Thoughts I have while a new pope is chosen.

I am the daughter of the 9th child and granddaughter of the 14th child due a rural Irish Catholic family history in Canada.

Without Catholicism I wouldn't be here. Why else have so many children??

I was giving a young coworker first time voter this very pep talk. It is easier than you would think.
You can register on site.
You can use a LOT of different things as ID.
Your boss has to give you time.
You can do this.
VOTING IS EASY

the most bespoke cozy authentic hidden secret thing you can do this weekend is cast a ballot
Elections Canada offices are open 7 days per week, 12 hours per day April 18-21. They often have shorter lines. The location is on your voter card or elections.ca

Justin McElroy, you’ve got to admit these are actually a hidden gem places to vote. @jmcelroy.bsky.social

Seems not as busy at our poll today for East Vancouver (Atrium hotel), no wait this morning. Poll workers reported it had been much busier yesterday.
Nearly 7% of eligible voters voted yesterday in the first day of advanced polls. Yowza! #elxn45

I hope Vancouver will improve their election staffing and choice of polling locations in response to yesterday's byelection experience.

I don't think voter suppression was intended, I do think the city miscalculated. But the experience had the effect of suppressing some voters.

Tempted to go see if there is still a byelection voting lineup at Brittania

Be extra nice to your poll staff, they’re working extra hard, it’s not their fault that voting is such a cluster-F today!

I've cracked the code of why byelection lineups are so long in Vancouver today.

It's not just a turnout question.

Compared to the 2017 byelection, the city decreased the number of election workers by EIGHTY PERCENT.

From 1,250 in 2017 to 250 this time around.

This was a staff recommendation.

This was not clear from the back of the line, so people in these groups should go to the front of the line and check in with polling staff.
REMINDER: If you are:

* An older adult
* A person with a disability
* Someone who is immunocompromised
* Someone who is pregnant
* Someone with children with you
* Someone who needs low stimulation because of a condition

You qualify for a priority lineup!

If you live in Vancouver, don't forget to vote in the city council byelection today. I think the current historical moment is a pretty good reminder of how important our democracy is.

You can vote at any polling place, find the most convenient one here:
