AALDP Litigation Fellow Steffen Seitz in @lpeproject.bsky.social on the threat of conspiracy/RICO to social movements: "[C]onspiracy directly targets collective action & thus takes aim at the social ties & speech that make movements work. Today’s movements...may be more vulnerable than ever before."
lpeproject.bsky.social
People recently targeted or threatened with RICO charges:

-antifa
-Soros
-people protesting Trump's dinner
-anti-ICE protesters
-Sanctuary city officials
-pro-Palestine protesters
-animal activists
-Stop Cop City activists

Steffen Seitz explains why this is especially bad for social movements.

The new EAT-Lancet report is out and I wrote about it -- and also what I saw at Climate Week NYC: An environmental movement still cozying up to Big Meat, and still unafraid to confront scientific consensus on food, agriculture, and livestock.

AI isn’t sucking rivers dry. Neither is your lawn. It’s agriculture. Farms use three quarters of our fresh water. That’s why the Colorado River is parched. That’s why the aquifers under California are overpumped. We’re drinking the earth, too.

Crazy idea -- what if we decided not to base our farm economy on growing soybeans for the global animal feed market, and instead focused on growing FOOD FOR PEOPLE.

This is extremely poor framing. It is not a "taste for soya" destroying the Amazon, it's a taste for meat. The VAST majority of soy grown in Brazil is due to animal agriculture, but your article never mentions this fact.

Your readers are walking away with a poor understanding of this issue.
