On the same day he stripped AAP of millions in grant funding in retaliation, RFK Jr awarded $1.6M to Tracy Høeg's Danish friends for a grossly unethical study that will expose African babies to hep B for no reason than it's politically expedient.

Steal from American taxpayers, give to MAHA cronies.
CDC awards $1.6 million for new hepatitis B vaccine study in Guinea-Bissau. Although the award recipients aren't named, the grant seems tailored to Danish researchers whose work is championed by anti-vaxxers but challenged by mainstream scientists.

It started raining immediately after I put the snow shovel away.

Cosmically hilarious, personally offensive.

This has to be the thing I hate most about the LLM/AI overhype. I school, I was taught sentence structure, spelling, and grammar. Because these models are trained on (stolen) published works, they also generally follow those rules. As a result, correct use of language leads to accusations of AI.
I just saw someone say that someone told them Oxford comma use is a telltale LLM sign
And I know it was probably ragebait but I took the bait and I'm raging 😂

In three days' time, SNAP benefits will stop for millions of Americans. Millions of people are going to starve.

This is by design.

Technology conferences are always amazing in terms of fashion. Everyone is either dressed to the nines in their sharpest professional clothes, or they look like someone wandered in from the wilderness.

There is like zero space between.

Dear Every Academic Journal,

You are *publishers*. Your submission templates should include LaTeX templates, and those templates should also actually make proper use of LaTeX functionality. It's not just for the math kids, it'll actually make your own jobs easier.

I'm dying here.

just got an email from a company letting me know that as part of a settlement for a data breach class action lawsuit against them, they're giving out a discount code for *up to* $1.00 to affected users.

So to be clear. A company gets to turn a legal ruling AGAINST them into ... more revenue.

Really enjoy how my electricity provider sends me a bill that's 30% higher than the same time last year, yet their own year-over-year comparison of my electricity usage shows I used LESS this year.

That's just so fun for me.

So it's gonna be that one clip of Kirk in the gym, followed by twelve years of black screen without audio?

I'm guessing Voyager and DS9 are right out.
Ah, yes... The company that owns Star Trek will now have someone that will censor the "woke" content.🙃

The time to cancel your CBS/Paramount+ subscriptions was yesterday, btw.

People blaming Murkowski need to also keep in mind there are an additional 49 other senators that need to be blamed for this.

Spread that blame around and hold them all accountable. Every single one. Didn't vote for them? Doesn't matter, they're still supposed to represent you.

Calling it "Alligator Alcatraz" intentionally evokes the idea of a prison, suggesting the people there have committed a crime.

Call it "Alligator Auschwitz", since that seems to be their actual intent.

Or better yet, call it directly what it is: a concentration camp.

I am growing increasingly annoyed at the number of "AI trainer" and "Tutor for AI Model" jobs popping up on LinkedIn and other sites. I have no interest in training your AI model to be a worse version of me. Companies are relying on short-term desperation to fuel long-term obsolescence.

Socialism is what they called public power.

Socialism is what they called social security.

Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.

Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

Quoting not just for the paper, but also because it includes a direct link to the github repository for the code.

More ML papers need to be doing this - if you don't include your code, it's pretty hard to reproduce the work.

Very nice job to Sengar et al.

Photo I took a couple weeks back while on a walk around the neighborhood. This is a Cecropia Moth, I think, though I'll defer to expert lepidopterists if I'm wrong.

They're fine killing off huge portions of their voting base because they don't think they'll ever need to worry about votes again.
How do they get away with this? The bill they passed cuts Medicaid by $793 BILLION.

$793 BILLION.

It's in the bill. They wrote it. Their own budget office says 10 million people will lose Medicaid coverage.

Just wild.
Mike Johnson brazenly lies: "We are not cutting Medicaid. The president has said that and I have said that. We're all said that. We're strengthening the program."

I've long said that if one party says it's raining and the other says it's sunny, the journalists job is to stick their head out the window and see what's true.

Not to report that the parties can't agree on anything.
Note to media:
“Trump says” is not a story. He says A LOT. He lies a lot. Do some sifting, discerning, contextualizing. Otherwise it’s just stenography. And you’re embarrassing yourselves.
