Oh I'm terribly, terribly British
That's what I like about me.
I belong to the type
Who has tweeds and a pipe
Because I'm terribly British, you see.

Mistletoes are parasitic plants.

Some have explosive fruits; some fling their babies to new branches they can infect.

They can also cause abnormal growths called “witches’ brooms” that deform the branches and decrease the reproductive ability of the host.

Romantic.

I felt guilty for how many Quality Street refills I’d bought, then I saw a picture of a vintage QS tin from my childhood, and it looked like the bass drum from a Premier kit, or one of Audrey Hepburn’s Ascot hat boxes.

I want a tin that there’s a public information film about in case you fall in.

I think about this sometimes.
Rich people are such miserable fucks nowadays that we’re halfway in a recession and I don’t think poor people are even jealous of their lifestyle

What do I want for Christmas?

A mysterious manor in the Scottish countryside, a library of vintage novels, a collection of the world’s rarest wines, an owl to deliver and retrieve my post, a butler with a mysterious backstory, and my own personal pastry chef.

I'm really not that hard to shop for.

Innocent people end up in our criminal courts.

Completely, terrifyingly innocent.

And all that stands between them and losing everything is a fair trial.

Politicians would do well to remember this when they tell us that justice is all about processing “criminals” swiftly.

Drip quotes and allusions, syntax so specific it cannot be modelled however large the data centres.
